Things are going kind of...astray with my classes-i.e. physics c e/m, apush, ap eng lang - yeah it's kind of tough right now.

If (as it looks like it's heading towards right now >.>) I get a 3.5 UW gpa my junior year, but with a 4.0 in freshman/sophomore years, how much will that decrease my chances?

I really want to go to a school like MIT, but the problem is, at my school, getting anything lower than a 3.9 docks you down a bajillion class ranks - each year, there's always about 15 seniors with 4.0's

I’m going to agree with HiimCole … not that 3.5 is a low GPA by most standards, but your junior and senior year classes should be indicative of how you will be able to step up to challenging coursework. Picture MIT being a bunch of kids that pretty much received strong A’s in all of their AP classes, and most of them took all AP classes. MIT is not for everyone, and even those that get all A’s don’t necessarily fit with MIT. My neighbor is a Sr at MIT and he was a straight A student, an Eagle scout, a leader in the community AND an amazing classical pianist and the lead his senior year in the high school musical. This type of person is fairly common at MIT from what he tells us, as well as at most Ivies. So, if you pull off a 3.5 your junior year, good for you. There are plenty of great schools that will happily take a strong student … it’s your job to find the right match for you.
