Hello,
I have a
gpa of 3.0 average
1450 SAT score (on new scale)
applying to CSU (LB, LA, CPP, CSUF, DH) and UC (R, SB, SD, and I) schools
I just want to go to a nearby 4-year? I’m also very open to whatever school accepts me, but I’m scared that none of the schools will want me… I know most of the schools are out of my reach and I will get denied, but I have tiny hope. Reason for poor grades is terrible physical and mental health. Advice, anyone?
1450 is not a low SAT score by any means
Sorry, just very very low confidence heh
You have a fine SAT score! Plenty of schools will want you. You first need to figure out what you are looking for, and most importantly, what you can afford. Check out the threads for students with 3.0-3.4 averages. Here is one to get your started from 2018. http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/1951765-parents-of-the-hs-class-of-2018-3-0-to-3-4-gpa-p1.html
Its a long thread, but those kids had wonderful results and got into great schools. There really is a college out there for everyone.
Is your 3.0 GPA, your CSU/UC capped weighted GPA?

Your low grades can be addressed in your UC essays but UCR/UCM will probably be your only UC options.
Cal States admit by Eligibilty index and major. Your SAT will make up for the lower GPA unlike the UC’s.
For the Cal states, you need to calculate your eligibilty index
(CSU capped weighted GPA x800) + (SAT Math + EBRW). Repost with your EI.
Intended major?
CSUDH is a Safety. CSULA a Match school and also possibly CPP. What is your local CSU? http://www.calstate.edu/sas/documents/csulocaladmission-serviceareas.pdf
You will get priority at your local CSU.
oh yay, I really want to get into UCR. I have a little hope. My local CSU is LB.
@sadgirl11 I guess you live in CA? There are probably many schools that would be glad to have you. I don’t know much about the schools you are applying to but find a couple of safety schools that you can tolerate and afford and you know will admit you. If you do well enough freshmen year you can transfer most anywhere. This is a stressful time but I hope you feel better.
UC’s are very GPA focused but if you address the difficulties that lead to lower grades, then UCR is possible but not a guarantee since your SAT score indicates you are a very capable applicant.
Based on your posted stats, your EI calculates out to a 3865. This EI should be competitive for the majority of Cal States (exceptions; Cal Poly SLO, Cal Poly Pomona, SDSU, some majors at SJSU, CSU Fullerton).
So you have 2 safeties: CSULA and CSDH.
You should be a Match for CSULB since you are in the local service area.
Other Cal states to consider: CSU San Marcos, San Francisco State, Sacramento State, Chico State.
Some private schools in your preferred area: Whittier College, Univeristy of Redlands, Cal Baptist, Cal Lutheran.
You just need to apply widely, have confidence in yourself and your abilities and you will have several options in the Spring. Best of luck.
Thank you
I hope my PIQ essays help me explain my situation and how I’m trying to overcome these obstacles in my life. I’m also working hard to get a 1500-1600 on the SAT. Thank you for your best wishes. Happy college app season!!
You probably don’t want to hear this but, i wouldn’t burn much of your Sr year on improving your SAT. Even a perfect score is unlikely to open many door. UCR, for example, is pretty unlikely either way. .
@gumbymom has given you a great list of schools that would be happy to have you. Depending on what you’d like to study, you might want to look at Humboldt and/or Sonoma to your ap list.
good luck
