Worked for 1 summer at a local waterpark

Grades... (the bad part)
~3.2 at one of the top east coast prep schools

Senior courses:
AP Phys
AP Chem
Multivariable Calc
English
World history

Based on my improving trend, I think I can expect to see about an A/A- average in these classes

I am a good writer so the essays should be great, and I already know two teachers who can give me awesome recs.

No, I am not just a good test taker--I am being dragged down by many bad grades during my freshman and softmore years. I was also dumb and took very hard classes.

This part of my list so far:

Reach:
Pomona
Pitzer*
Vanderbilt*
Wash U.
Duke*
CalTech
JHU
Olin
Harvey Mudd
Fu Foundation (Columbia)*

Match:
UCSD
GA Tech
U. Illinois
Trinity

Safety:
Rose-Harmon

*=possible ED

As you can probably guess, I want to do an engineering type major (not sure of the specifics yet, but I know I want to go to med school)

Am I reaching too high? Which colleges should I cut from my long reach list/ add to my short safety list?

My idea was that I should apply to as many reaches possible because I have very strange stats, but this may be the wrong approach.

Thanks for the help!

If you are serious about your test scores then I would say you'll get into a few of your reach schools. Your GPA may be low but you seem to take pretty difficult classes and are clearly very smart. Besides, many good non-Ivy schools bend over backwards for kids with scores like yours.

If you show an upward trend in your grades, they'll be happy to ignore a few, I'm sure.

Plus, some colleges ignore freshman year grades.

When you're working on your app, though, please write 'sophomore' not 'softmore' because I'm just not sure what a 'softmore' is. Just some advice. =P

its rose hulman isnt it?

It is Rose Hulman. I watched Accepted last night so I guess i confused the names.

You should try for ED at Pomona, I had a 3.3 GPA (but not at an elite prep school) and similiar scores, with an upward trend. Like me, you also have strong 'soft' factors, which Pomona focuses on, and they will be impressed by yours.

In addition, Pomona places extraordinarily well into med-school, despite not even gaming the system (they won't prevent you from applying to boost their stats like many other schools)

Feel free to PM me

What is your rank?

My school does not do ranks, but I am most likely in the top 25%

Please, someone reply! I honestly have no idea of my chances
