Any people out there who had a low gpa in college (3.0 - 3.3 or otherwise) and transferred to a Top 50 school. What Gpa Did you get, and from where to where?

You can get into Tulane.

what about UT Austin?

I remember somebody on the USC decision thread getting in with a 2.8 GPA. My sister’s best friend got into to NYU,GWU UMiami and Tufts with a 3.3. I also know of somebody who who was accepted into YALE with a 3.4 gpa. NEVER GIVE UP DAMMIT NO MATTER WHAT ANY OF THESE FREAKS TELL YOU!

I love you :D…thanks!

People with 3.0-3.4 transfer from CCC to places like UC-Davis (top 50) all the time.

Or UCSD (top 40).

USC is the best school that a 3.3ish student can get into. depends on the major though

@OrsonSwells – Can you explain the situations on all of those? Particularly the USC transfer?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/704200-usc-transfer-decisions-2009-official-thread.html?highlight=Usc+thread+2009
There are also other students with low gpas getting in.

My sister’s best friend really f’d up her 1 st semester at a top rate LAC, dropped out, started anew at a cc the following fall semester and never looked backed.

As far as the Yale case, I really don’t know to much about the person. She was an acquaintance of acquaitance, so I didn’t know her personally. All I know is she had a 3.4 gpa and she transferred form hunter college. I have no idea what her “hook” was, although I can imagined she must’ve really impressed the hell out of the adcoms at Yale.

So basically I should have really good essays and a good resume. So to boost my application, should i do stuff like blood drives, joining various clubs etc. will it help?

Ya adopt a baby…just get some help on your essays and that will be a def boost

I know a CC poster got into Penn from William and Mary with a 3.3gpa as a Junior transfer he/she had a 1460/1600 on the SAT and was in the top 5% of her HS class

These anecdotes tell you nothing. Was the Yale transfer from Hunter perhaps a low income URM. A friend of a friend? At schools with a 2% transfer admissions rate something has to be remarkable.

USC has guaranteed transfer relationships with some CA CCs.

I would also note that where the 3.3 is from, high school record, ECs and SAT scores will play a large role at most.

Hmom5- no this person was caucasian. I 'm sure she had something remarkable.

Dammit, did you even bother to read the usc decision thread?

My sis’ bff dropped out of Mt. Holyoke. Her hs stats were great, not necessarily mindblowing.

I had a 3.4~ and I got into NYU Steinhardt. That being said, I’m also the daughter of a Professor at one of NYU’s colleges and I had three semesters at CC under my belt. I also had internships, played a varsity sport and was a student teacher. I was rejected by NYU in 2005 as an ED candidate.

what about transferring with a 2.95? What are the chances with that GPA?

A 2.95 GPA from UC San Diego?

I got into UNC with a 3.175 GPA from NYU (Stern). But, I think I got in based on HS stats and my essay, not college stats.

“Have you guys seen opposites where students with a low high school GPA (3.0-3.5) and high college GPA (3.5 and above) have made it into top schools as transfers?”

i second this
