low gpa, trying to turn around?

I am a sophomore living in south carolina looking at American University, George Washington University, James Madison University, University of Maryland, and possibly Virginia, but my GPA isnt too amazing at the moment, a 2.5 unweighted, but I think ill be able to get it to around a 3.2-3.4 by the time i graduate. I got a 590 on math, 550 on reading and 540 on writing on the SAT (1140/1680) but of course im planning on taking it at least one more time. I lettered on varsity football this year, and run track and field on the state championship team. I am planning on doing mock trial next year and i'm in a community service club called Interact. I am looking to major in political science and have worked for Joe Wilson's (you lie!!) campaign and am planning on working for Romneys presidential campaign as well. Any tips, and thoughts on chances of getting into any of these colleges with improvement
also any suggestions of any other good colleges that are realistic that are good in political science?

you really need to bring up your gpa if you want to consider any of these. I would say Virginia is a realllly high reach and maybe George Washington as well. With a higher GPA Maryland and JMU seem like matches. Also, to better your chances try to get more leadership positions. Maybe another good school to apply to maybe evern as a safety would be George Mason, which is great for politics.
