Hey, I'm a junior in the IB program and all my classes including electives (with the exception of speech in 9th grade) have been AP, IB, or Honors. My GPA is currently a 2.75 unweighted, but only because I had an abysmal freshman year (I finished with a 2.25). I've been dragging my GPA up ever since and I currently have 4 A's and 2 B's in all AP/IB courses. My SAT is at 1380 and im sure being a junior I have time to bring it up more (the same goes for my GPA). Assuming I have a 1400 and a 2.86 by the time I apply, what are the chances that I get into the University of Oregon or the University of Washington? (I'm a non-resident living in Florida).

------anybody?

pllleeeeeaase? BTW my GPA is a 3.75 weighted and I was also thinking about applying to University of Montana (just because its so damn beautiful), UMass-Amherst, and UNH.

ok, the reason you most likely haven't been receiving any responses is because you are setting a prophecy with your sat ii scores which are also a major factor, but not only that, gpa is usually calculated differently at EVERY high school, so by you telling everyone here that your gpa is 2.86 we don't know how to react because for example at my school you would be ranked 300 out of 400 with that gpa lol, so i suggest you give atleast an approximation of your rank and standings compared to other students in your grade, then someone like me may be able to assess your chances thoroughly =)

ok, my class rank unweighted is about 200/409, weighted its about 150/409. My school is extremely odd, theres the IB program with a bunch of exceptional students, and then there is the major program which is unfortunately the worst HS in the county. But my school lumps them all together when it comes time for class ranking so although there are maybe 150 IB kids in my grade, there are 259 major programmers. Also, I was unaware that state schools such as those that I previously mentioned required or even requested SAT ii's, throughout my research I have found that only high end prestigious private university's like Duke and the Ivy's require them. So lets assume I have taken no SAT II's, also I will have an IB diploma upon graduation. And furthermore, I got a 4 on AP English Comp, a 4 on AP Euro History, and am taking AP Psych, AP stats, and AP US history this year, all of which I plan to get at least a 4 on. Unfortunately my extracurrics arent too strong, Spanish Club, Film Club, Boxing, 1 year varisty X-Country, and 85 hours of volunteering at a local elementary school. Does this information help?

just curious, where in florida do you live?

gainesville area

-------nobody?

Your 1380 is okay, but your GPA is too low for even UMASS-Amherst. Why did you choose The Zoo? so many riots, drunkards, and rapists.

http://www.zoomass.com/

This is really weird because princetonreview rated UMASS as a safety for me. Ill probably be applying with a 2.9 on the most difficult courseload offered, and i have no doubt that my SAT will be above a 1430 by application time.

oh and also, 25% of UMASS's freshmen had a HS GPA of between 2.0 and 2.99

Super! You have a 25% chance :-) Do you feel ready to take the most difficult courseload offered? Have you overcome whatever could have contributed to your abysmal freshman year (e.g. medical problems, poor attendance, and/or poor study habits).

Have you taken the SAT II? Are you involved in community service/extra curricular clubs? Im just curious; Im not trying to draw attention to what you (possibly) havent done.

Blindc1rca, what is your GPA for your Sophomore and Juinor Year?

ok Brandeisguy no, that is inaccurate, you cannot simplify it like that. I have far more than a 25% chance because if I have JUST below a 3.0 (2.9), AND I took the most difficult courses at my school, AND I have a steady upward trend, AND I have an SAT like 300 points higher than their mean, it changes things alot. If I have an 85% chance (yes this is true, i talked to Swisshelm, assistant admissions there) of getting into UF, theres no way UMass will be that much less likely. What do you mean "ready to take the most difficult courseload offered?" I have been all of highschool, im in the IB program, which is the most difficult courseload offered at my school. No offense but I think you hold UMass in far too high a regard.
Moving on, Alexandre, my GPA for sophomore year was a 3.0 and junior year (1st semester) is a 3.6. I expect a 4.0 for my second semester (which will begin after the winter break that am currently in).
All 6 of my junior year courses are AP/IB. Sophomore year year I was in 3 AP, 2 Pre-IB, 1 Honors. Freshman year I was in 4 Pre-IB and 2 Honors.
