Low GPA - Will I still be able to transfer?

My first semester in college didn't quite end the way I expected it to (lets just say I had all A's going into finals), and as a result my GPA is a 2.918. This might be changed to a 3.0 as a processing error at the registrars office changed a graded course I received an A in to a satisfactory/unsatisfactory course, and the professor is appealing this, but I don't want to count on it being changed.

Will this completely prevent me from transferring for Fall '06?

Since in college I haven't really "joined" anything. I'm a member of the honors program (20 students/~2500), which does require some community service, and I am a volunteer coach for my high school debate team (chaperone for trips, judge, etc.) and my old coach is writing me an additional letter of rec. Oh, I'm also a Social Sciences for Sec Edu major (it's a joint program at my school).

Schools I'm considering:
Simmons
Stonehill
Suffolk
Clark
Holy Cross

High School Stats:
Jupiter High School, Jupiter, Florida
Non-weighted GPA: 3.4
Weighted GPA: 3.8
SAT: 1270 (730 v/ 540 m)
ACT: Taking in Feb
AP Exams: English Lit - 4; English Comp - 4

Extracurricular Acitivites:
JHS Speech and Debate Team (9, 10, 11, 12) - This is by far my "stand out" EC; Points Chairman (11), President (12), Member of the National Forensic League (Degree of Superior Distinction - 810 pts.), Varsity Letter awarded (12, 11, 10), Ranked 1st all-time point earner for JHS, Debater of the Year, Ranked 1st Overall (10, 11, 12), Qualified for and broke at numerous national tournaments (including states & catnats), etc. Founded the "Summer Classics Series" (debate camp for middle schoolers) and coached a middle school debate team (10, 11, 12), currently a "volunteer coach" for two high school debate teams.

JHS Mock Trial Team (11, 12) - President (12)

JHS Law Club (11, 12 ) - President (12)

Social Studies National Honor Society (11, 12)

Any help or input would be greatly appreciated!!!! :)

You will def. get into Suffolk. I go there now, and it is not a hard school to get into at all.

Thanks so much for your reply, I hope you're right :)

Do you like Suffolk, btw?

I'm actually transferring. I feel like I'm not being challenged enough academically for the money I'm paying (and i'm paying a lot!) If you have any questions though, I'd be more than happy to answer. What are you majoring in and where do you plan to live?

I'm majoring in polysci/history with a minor in education/secondary education depending upon where I end up & living on campus if possible (I'm in FL right now though)

BUMP - any other feedback? :)

Make sure you get your deposit in early if you want to live on campus! Send it in if you're even thinking about going there, and then if you decide not to go, it's refundable and you have housing if you decide to go there.
The polisci program is awesome at Suffolk--most of the students study ps because we're so close to the State House, and lots of internships are done for politicians.

I never thought about the deposit, I didn't realize they were refundable, thanks for the tip & I'm definately glad to hear some positive feedback on the polysci program :)

Does anyone have any thoughts regarding Simmons, Stonehill or Clark?

BUMP - Happy New Years everyone!

I'm posting under my son's sig!
He just completed his first semester at Suffolk, he lives in the new dorm there, right beside the State House. He's in the Polisci, honors gov't/pre-law. He seems to love it, takes 5 classes and says it's managable. He made Deans list his first semester! He says the classes are small, anywhere from 7-30 students. Professors are great, interesting and very caring. Food is great too!. If you have any other questions just ask and I'll ask him for you.

Thanks so much! I'm glad to hear that your son is enjoying it & doing well.

How does he like the dorms?

And I've heard that Suffolk's campus is somwhat disjointed/spread out (like NYU/BU), does he mind that at all?

I really appreciate the feedback, WeiCC :)

He likes the dorms, they enforce they are guarded 24/7 and very strict as far as visitors checking in and being escorted at all times. I'm a parent and I leave my license as they check me in on their computer every time I go visit. (we go to the North End a lot when I'm in town to EAT!) The dorm where he is staying are 2 years old, they are beautiful (about a 2 min. walk to classrooms)! There is another building on Tremont St. as well, they are older but well kept, and farther away from the classrooms(about 6min walk).
He likes the way the classrooms are in all different buildings spread out around Beacon Hill. It's a very pretty, nicely kept area with lots of charm and it's easy to find your way around. Have you visited?
If you are thinking about attending, as another poster already stated, get your housing deposit in very early if you want a dorm, they don't have enough and it's on a first come, deposit date basis.

Thanks so much for your reply!

I actually visited once when I was competing on their campus a few years ago when debate nationals were being held in Boston, but I had no intentions of applying at the time and so didn't really pay much attention to my surroundings, thanks for the link, it looks absolutely gorgeous from those pictures, and who could pass up that view?

And it's definitely nice to know that the buildings are gaurded and have a good security system in place. Do you happen to know anything else about their visitors policy/overnight guests?

Guests are allowed to stay in the dorms for up to 3 days at a time. They have to be escorted at all times. My son has had quite a few guests stay over and they all LOVE it! They do enforce quiet hours after 10pm on school nights and 12 on weekends! They are very strict about NO alcohol too! If you even look drunk walking into the dorm building you won't be allowed to stay and have to go to hearings etc. My DS is not a fan of drinking so he likes the strict rules and calm enviornment.

I think that you have a good shot at all of them, perhaps look into a reach school in the area though....any other comments for her, I'm not very in-tune with the transferring bit.

Anyone have any more comments for this little lady?
