Low gpa!

Hi guys,

so my dream is to go to graduate school right after i graduate, however, my gpa is suffering at a literally 2.090. As of this fall, I will be a third year, BUT a junior until winter quarter next yr! uhm, anyways, i will be done with ge's soon after this summer and begin my major on september...my question is,
should i just disregard my dream of going to graduate school if my gpa is that low??

It depends where do you want to go…? Are you planning for masters or phd? Anyways, you have plenty of time to raise your gpa. Study harder, try to get high score on GRE, and work for a professor to get good recommendation letter. Don’t ever give up.

hey Towelie,

well, i’m planning on going for an MSW, which is apparently needed to become a social worker, which is the career i wish to pursue…& thanks for your motivation!!

just because you had a low gpa you should never disregard your dream & give up ! Work hard, you can do it!

Definitely don’t give up. Study hard, reach out for tutoring if you need to (it’s free at the Academic Resource Center, take advantage of that), and speak with your TAs and professors. Like Towelie said, building relationships with your professors will help you get solid letters of rec, which are a big part of the application when you apply for grad school (alongside the GRE).

You can also speak with your professors and TAs for advice on where to apply for grad school, so hit up those office hours once you get back to class.

You got this! :)

thanks for your support pikachew and elisebear!
