Hi,
I want to pursue computer science as I’ve always been interested in technology and like maths. I need help shortlisting some universities based on my grades:
IB predicted: 28/42 (probably a 2.8 GPA?)
SAT: 1470 (760 Maths, 710 Reading & Writing)
EC: Been playing squash for 5 years, self-taught java and C#, peer tutoring, etc.
I currently have Texas A & M, Virginia Tech, Florida State University, and the University of Colorado Boulder on my list. Are these universities unrealistic based on my grades? If so, any suggestions on universities I should look into?
With your stats, it is possible that any university in the top 100 will be a reach school for CS. It is a highly competitive major right now. Many universities that do admit by major tend to have lower rates of CS and engineering admits than the university percentages on the whole. You may be better off applying to colleges that DON’T admit by major.
Since you aren’t providing any location detail, my suggestion is to try your In-state universities that are a step or two below the flagship depending on how competitive it is where you live.
