low marks in school, high marks in board

sorry aniruddh, not true. not everyone wants to come to the us. i do know ppl who got into ivies and went to iit instead. personal choice?
btw where ru now, which school?

But I read in the newspaper that you had won the International Linguistics Olympiad before. So that’s a HUGE EC achievement.

Can an applicant mention something as an EC if he has an interest in it but did not win many awards in that field? For example, I’m interested in photography and have contributed serious time towards it but it’s not really possible for me to hold my exhibitions and win awards (at this age). So can I mention it as an EC?

^yeah, you can mention it as an EC in your resume or something.

@esconie: I’ll send u an fb message, this is too public :/

@aniruddhc What are your ECs like? Are they all stellar?

^it is almost impossible for indian students to have ‘stellar’ ECs when compared to most american students. at least that’s what i believe. unless you go to a school which focuses on the holistic development of students. not too many of those in india but i gss quite a few of us CCers attend these schools.

and you can definitely mention it as an EC if you’ve devoted a lot of time to it. but don’t mention it just to pad your application up.
