Low Math I SAT II for Engineering?

Hey guys, I wanted to get some opinions on my SAT II Math I score, a 690. In hindsight, I really wish I had taken the Math II considering I'm applying for engineering. I got a 2320 SAT I with a 750 on math, and I currently have a 97 average in AB Calc senior year (I've gotten straight As throughout high school in the highest math classes it offers). My question is, without taking into account other facets of my application, if this would significantly hurt my chances at Cornell and Rice?

yes it would. of course admissions could also think it’s “the odd one out” since it doesn’t match your other stats, but they may also wonder why you didn’t retake it, if it means you were satisfied with that score or what.
Why did you even take Math1 when most highly selective colleges won’t take it into account for STEM majors?
Well, what is done is done. No point in tormenting yourself about something you can’t change now. You should have your answer within 2-3 weeks. Find a way to distract yourself and enjoy your senior year :)

That was a mistake to take Math1 instead of Math2. Are you senior or junior? If you are junior, you should definitely take the SAT2 Math2 soon.

Thanks for the responses guys, I really appreciate the insight. Yes, I’m a senior. You’re right, there’s no use in worrying over it. I made a mistake, and if that’s the decision between an acceptance and a rejection, I probably didn’t deserve to get in anyway. Heck, I’m in at 2 of my top schools anyway, so I’ll be happy no matter what happens.

Sadly, many high school counselors are not doing their job. You should have received information like this ahead of time from the counselor.

Yeah, my counselor could have told me, but I should have been more diligent in my research.

I think your SAT I score looks great and the fact that you have taken rigorous math courses should be significant. Rice is tough, though. Did you take the Chemistry or Physics SAT II ?

Just an update in case anyone was interested. Cornell and Rice both waitlisted me. So some advice for future applicants: take Math II! Don’t be stupid like me.
