Low regents score

I failed the physics regents, but I passed the class with a 88. Is it going to affect my admissions to cornell?

If it shows up on your transcript, then yes they will see it. Which college in cornell are you going to apply to?

I am pretty sure that a failed Regents score will raise huge question marks on an application. Regents are supposed to be general aptitude tests that are taken into account mainly for low and mid-tier SUNY schools. If you actually failed it, your chances would be extremely slim as these tests are utter jokes to the average Cornell student.

Regents exams were originally intended to give SUNY colleges a measure by which to minimize the differences in level of difficulties among high schools. They then turned into more of the college prep track. Now with “everyone Regents”, the required exams (Algebra, Global Studies, US History, English 11, & One Science) are curved & “watered down”. However the higher level exams such as Physics, Chemistry, Trig. are still rather difficult. My D, who attends Cornell got an 83 on the Physics exam her Junior year. However an 83 is still a far cry from failing it, especially this year. We had only 1 failure out of 48 students and 30% at 85 or better. If your SAT I & II’s, class rank & GPA are still at or above Cornell’s 50th percentile, they may chalk it up to an extremely bad day.

At my school, you can retake the regents in the middle of the school year. Maybe you should check if yours is the same.

I believe Physics is only offered in June, no August or January administration.

When I took the Physics regents, I took it in January 2011, but I don’t know if they changed it (my school ran block scheduling).
