I did really poorly on my June SAT 2's. I got a 670 in Chemistry and a 610 in Math level 2. Will it hurt my chances to compete in BA/MD programs? Here are my stats otherwise:

GPA: 3.95 unweighted
Class rank: 3 out of 331
AP's: Psychology (5), Chemistry, U.S. History, English Language
(scores coming in July)
Senior year schedule: AP Spanish Language, AP English Literature, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, AP Biology, and Honors Physics
SAT Scores: Comp: 1950 All were good except for math (570)
ACT Scores: Comp. 29 (retook in June- scores out in July)
SAT 2: US History(720)
Chemistry (670)- I am not good at standardized tests
Math 2 (610)- " "
EC's: Science Olympiad(9th to 12th)- captain for 11th and 12th, placed in regionals every year so far, Book Club (9th to 12th)- secretary in 11th, volunteered at hospital( 9th and 10th), shadowed three different physicians (oncologist, radiation oncologist, and internal medicine) (100+ hours), did research at cancer center, volunteer at local free clinic, National Beta Club (10th- 12th), National Honors Society (11th-12th), National Spanish Honors Society (12th- first one at my school), Indoor track (9th and 11th), and more I cannot remember

How do I stand??! Boston, Northwestern HPME, UMKC, and GWU are my top choices. Other choices are VCU, Washington U in St. Louis, Howard, Drexel, and ECU. Do I stand a chance at any of these schools? How can I improve? Thanks!!!!

You have a solid GPA and ECs, but your SAT/ACT/SAT subject test scores may unfortunately hold you back. 750+ and 2200+ are generally the bars set at the lower end to get an interview for many of these programs.

I would focus on finding some solid regular undergraduate schools that offer great pre-med programs. Its fine to apply to the ba/md programs as well, but don’t put all your eggs in one basket!

Most schools look for ACT scores in the 30’s.
For SAT some require subject tests and you should really check the program you are applying to. I thought I recalled some saying specifically they want to see math or science etc. Don’t be afraid to call and ask them. You don’t have to share your test results. You can even ask the particular school you are interested in what sort of minimum they look for and if the subject tests are required. Also ask them if October is too late or not. Applications are usually due anywhere between Nov to early Dec.
Good luck

You could take October SAT and November SAT2s, some programs will accept late score reports if the test is taken in November, contact each to find out. Realistically, you need to do much better on the SAT and subject tests to have a chance at admission.

I will be retaking the SAT in October, and I will be retaking my SAT 2’s in Nov.( maybe even adding Spanish with listening). I have not gotten a definite response from admissions, but I hope they will accept it.

Boston will take November tests only for special circumstances, and Drexel has to have all scores in by Nov. 30( after they have processed it). It seems like Nov. 3 would be too late. Would it be wiser to retake the ACT in Sept. (if necessary) and forego the SAT? Or take the risk of programs not accepting my SAT 2 scores? This is a sticky situation!

In that case, take sept ACT and Nov SAT2s, that way you have a complete application before the deadline, and you can always try to have the scores updated later. SAT2s are a requirement, and the SAT isn’t.

That is what I am going to do! Thanks for all of the help neoevolution, dblazer, Midhelpers, and johnstoops! It got me out of a sticky situation :)

Hey I’m planning on applying to boston and I called. They said they would accept november subject test scores. And the nov 3 test scores should come out by like the 23rd of nov possibly so you’ll be fine for program with deadlines for nov 30/dec 1

I thought that you meant October instead of November, and that is the way I plan to go! The ACT in Sept. and SAT 2’s in Oct. Boston’s deadline is Nov. 15; so, I would rather not take the chance with them not receiving my scores in time.
