yeah, carrerra, you're right. i guess i took offense b/c i don't know thestonedpanda, and I am an Iranian woman. Truce.
Peace everyone!
Edit: To think that my petty "Low SAT for JHU?" thread would lead to this amount of debate... interesting, yet purely CC.

For the record, the comment was not directed to the Persian friend. It was a description of Persians via her friend. It was not a conversation between friends but a description of Iranians through his friend.

I thought Fountainsiren was right to mention that it was in bad taste.

And the words were the persian friend's (although, as I said, she might have been drunk at the time).

Pointing out something is in bad taste is a far cry from what fountain did.

and if you're going to pick straws let me ammend my statement (since the more rational people have arrived at a truce), "but just remember [people], if you ever complain about persian women or men (and im not saying you have or that you guys might do it more than others), you're more guilty than i am. (or if you've ever used the word sefeed or haven't reacted towards someone who has used it like you did to me!)"

Fountainsiren, graciously steped away from this dispute. Perhaps you will do the same.
I am also a woman. In fact, three of the people posting here are women so I'm not sure how to take your "just remeber people admonision."

Three Iranian women say they don't like the way you refer to Iranains (Tashi87, Fountainsiren, and myself).
One (ethnically Jewish) man thinks it doesn't matter.

You feel you know better what we should prefer to hear.

It's best to let it go.
In four years you may or may not feel differently.

The girl herself doesn't feel my statements were out of line (and that man was iranian). But no. I personally don't think my statements were that big of a deal. You have the right to feel what you want.

I do not think fountainsiren graciously stepped away from this dispute. Nor do I think she graciously entered it. She too made sweeping generalizations (and assumptions). What GT said was rational, and is an ideal to which I can agree. I ostensibly did not mean to offend anyone.

wait sorry i am nto being insensitive, but its a common myth that muslim people in the middle east are not allowed to shave. ( not talking abt middle eastern americans). Anyway i agree, CC is hardly the place to make such a statement. ( stonedpanda if we were with you we probably would have got it )
