I know my SATs are the weakest part of my application. But, considering that and the other stuff, do I still have a shot?

School Applied to: Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service (International Politics)

Anyone?!?!

Hey I saw your message asking to chance you for getting into Georgetown and as a current student, I can honestly say there really is no formula any of us could use to see if you’re going to get in or not. But all things considered, I still think you have a really strong application. The only thing you have to keep in mind is your demographic and the fact you are applying to SFS. The school is definitely competitive but you have clearly showed your interest in international affairs. Doing MUN is a great help - a lot of my friends in SFS did it throughout their whole high school career. And here we have a whole range of SAT scores. Trust me, Georgetown is not going to look at your scores as the pure definition of who you are as both a student and person. So I know it’s hard to, but try to relax! Freaking out isn’t going to get you anywhere besides in the hospital with a coronary. Hoya saxa!

Hey thanks for the chance!

Did you apply early? I think you have a better shot in the early round. Your SAT scores are, as you mentioned, quite low. Have you considered retaking or trying the ACT?

Otherwise, you have strong EC’s  Best of luck!

x.sunny–Why would it be easier to get in early? I would surmise that the opposite were true.

Oops sorry! That was a complete typo on my part. I meant in the regular round.

Yeah, I’m retaking.

Mav–You should try the ACT. Of course, I am biased because that’s the preferred test in Ohio (or at least in my area of Ohio). I hope you get in, but it might be a stretch, especially for EA.

I’m taking three SAT 2s in dec and the ACT.
