Low SAT, Good GPA.... What will happen?

I do poorly when it comes to the SAT. I first scored a 1540 and then a 1630 my next try. I have been studying for my final chance in October. My GPA is 4.1 weighted though... I'm 11th in my class, but take the hardest courses available and have done so since freshman year. The weighting system in my school is screwed up, so that kids who take basic level classes can get straight A's and still receive a GPA over 4. I take all AP classes and received two B's last year and my GPA is only 4.1. I want to double major in civil engineering and environmental engineering, and came up with a list of possible matches, you tell me.

My EC's are:
3 years of marching band
3 years of baseball
Started an Environmental Club
Chosen for New Jersey Governor's School on the Environment 2010 ( 1 of 47 scholars)

I'm Caucasian and a resident of NJ. My parents make about 100k combined, but had tofile for bankruptcy. How much aid could that get me?

My List:
Rutgers New Brunswick
Penn State UP.... or maybe Harrisburg
Purdue WL
NCSU
Cornell... just for the hell of it

Thanks to anyone who gives me feedback =)

Most likely rejection at Cornell.

haha yeah, its more of a dream. do you think I have a shot at the others?

“My parents make about 100k combined, but had tofile for bankruptcy. How much aid could that get me?”

You are suggesting filing bankruptcy gets you aid? Or making 100k?

The bankruptcy

I don’t think so. Did you fill out the FASFA? Do you know if your schools use the PROFILE? BTW, I don’t know about “chances”.

are you saying i won’t get into any of those schools? or you just dont know?

No, no! I was saying I don’t think bankruptcy increases your financial aid.

Cornell is a high reach and Purdue is a low reach…the rest should be fine. good luck.

Try taking the ACT and see if the score for that can help out.

You do understand that there’s a lot of excellent schools that don’t consider SAT’s right?

I suggest you look into Dickinson College for example, a top 30 educational Institution that only factors in your academic record instead of actually giving notice to some kind of hypothetical test model created by old people.

oh okay. thanks for the info so far guys! and Im registered to take the ACT in october as well.

Retake the SAT and get a 2100+ score. It’s not hard if you use CC as a SAT resource. Then you’ll have a chance at Cornell, and a much better chance at Penn State and the rest.

If you wanna chance me back…

“My” chance thread:

bump, keep the info coming please =)

I have the same problem but my SAT is 1690 and gpa weighted 4.00 and i want to know if i can get into florida state university

well i know penn state apparently accounts your gpa as 2/3 of their decision… but idk, im really working to get my SAT to 1800+.

yeah, im really trying to get my SAT to 1750+. Im going to take the ACT as well.

You need to study harder for the SAT, because that is one of the main things they look at. So I say, for this last SAT you are going to take, study as much as possible, and give it your best shot. If it still doesn’t work out, colleges will look at other things about you and take you in. You never know!

can i get into rutgers with a 3.27 and a very low 1400 SAT but im retaking it, im african american and play 2 sports and in 3 clubs. i also am taking 2 or 3 APs

I would also look into a school like Gettysburg which I think has engineering and is SAT optional. Suny Buffalo might be worth a look also. Best of luck!
