Low SAT score

after doing horribly on the SATs for a second time, I now have a cumulative 2180 (CR-730,W-750,M-700).

Given that I am ranked in the top 1%, take all AP classes, and have a very, very extensive list of ECs that show leadership, community service and commitment, am I completely out of the running because of my abyssmal scores?

Also, my recs were superb, and my essay is very well written, original, and insightful. I really want to get in, but I feel like the SAT is going to be the big black mark on my app that gets me rejected.

I guess I’m wondering if I’m foolish for still having hope. Will my scores completely kill my shot?

Your scores are fine. While they wont put you in the top 10% of applicants, they are high enough that Brown will not think you are stupid and throw away your application. 700+ across the board is very good and will no way hinder your application.

ur in! a friend of mine with a 1950,average essay and run of the mill ECs got in....so its possible. good luck!

2180 is abysmal? Ha ha, ho ho, chortle.

Oh.

You weren't kidding?

You need to relax... you seem like just the sort of anxiety-ridden Type A candidate that students imagine the Ivies are looking for. If you don't get in it won't be because of your "abysmal" SATs.

(Rick re-reads his post)

Well, that certainly came off snottier than I intended. How about this -- the director of admissions for Princeton said to a reporter that he could fill his entire freshman class with high school valedictorians that he rejected each year. Once you've got the right profile (and you seem to) it's just a crapshoot at the schools you are interested in. Really, it won't be your fault.

2180 = Top 2% in the nation (Wikipedia). Sooo horrible, I don't even know how you live with yourself. P.S. Brown does indeed take the best of each section, right?

man go cry in a corner and give up now.....JK

Have some confidence dude!

a 2180 is extremely bad, don't you know that Ivy schools reject ppl who don't have 2400s..well, on second thought, they might let you in with a 2390 if you found a cure for cancer, stop AIDS, or something like that

People like you keep me amused...
Dude, I have a lower SAT than you and I'm applying, and I'm quite optimistic aswell lol.

Do not be ashamed of a healthy 2180. Since your scores are around the same range, it doesn't matter (colleges can't say that your scores are lopsided, etc). AND then are within the middle 50 percentile

So yes. It is worth applying to brown with a 2180.

While some people are amused I find it quite sad to see your reaction to your SAT score. If scores and numbers are your only strengths, you're out of the game already- and if they are not why being whiny here? To fish for compliments in a not-so-subtle-way? There's some weak performance.

Stop asking questions we cannot answer. We are not admissions officers. Once you apply, it's out of your hands.
