Low SAT scores and Still accepted?

I was just wondering if any of you guys know of some people who had particulartly low SAT scores, like below a 1400(on the old SAT) and still got into Penn

my brother...he had a 1380 and got in

From last years ED CC list there were several, but they all had "hooks" of one kind or another:

a kid from Oregon(1330), a double legacy with an art hook (1380), a Philly resident(1370), an Indiana resident ( 1380), and someone who did impressive research (1380).

i knew a few 1300-1330's who got into Wharton

Last year's co-valedictorian got in with SAT 1350 or so. She was a standby-taker for SAT I because "U Penn requires 1400", but she didn't take it. :)

my brother had a 1380, but other than that was good all around. He did not have a real hook (being a white jewish boy from connecticut)- but his good grades, APs, SATs, extracurriculars, recs and essays all seemed to make up for the below average SAT (according to penn standards at least)...

do you guys know anyone who got in with a 1200 - 1300?

From my travels in the archives, here's a quote from a Penn admissions officer -

"Test scores aren't as important as most people believe they are, but they are more important than you'd probably like them to be."

That probably says it all!

There are people accepted in the 1200-300 range I saw in the site.. 17%

this swim recrut got in with a low or mid 1200

if you went to visit the campus this summer, they told our whole group that someone with a 1100-1170 (i forget the exact) got in, and this guy was white and did not play any sports---i wonder what his other stats were like...

A friend of a friend (white without an exceptional hook) was admitted with an SAT score of somewhere in the 1200's (M&CR). He didn't play any sports, was a legacy, etc. I understand he wrote a great essay (I didn't see it though), and I'm assuming it may have tipped him in. Don't lose hope!

dont get ur hopes up, usually most those kids know people, or are millionaires, or are like albino.....

Me... And I'm not millionaire, I don't know anyone, and I'm not like albino, thank you very much.

in my school, in the last 2-3 years, 4-5 students ED have gotten in 1300-1400 boards

How about for RDs? I got decent SAT IIs, good APs, but a 2060 SAT I (670 CR, 690 M 700WR). Im an intel NOT applying for Fin. Aid. You think these stats can make the cut at Wharton?

sorry to ride on... but is lousy verbal and W scores detrimental? i've been worrying about how the admin staff will see my scores and wonder 'why is this kid even applying?'
btw.. i got 620 for verbal and 630 for writing.. (though my math is 790)
i took the subject tests in Nov though.. most prob 770 for chem, and 800 each for math2 and chinese
im an intel too, no fin. aid.. applied ED.. and what makes me worried is that competition for intels are even more intensive..
if i do get deferred.. (let's hope), i can retake my tests for better scores right? and it still counts?

after mid-december...

Do they accept any other scores for testing dates after december RD? January? Feb?

BTW... elemental_rights your scores should be fine I think...but what do I know.

i know someone who got a 1240 and got into penn...3 varsity sports though and high gpa

I feel confident again
