Low SAT, should I even apply?

Well, I'd say I have a decent GPA and a horrible SAT score. Counselor said I shouldn't waste money on an application to W&M and UVa because I wouldn't get in.

Thanks for the help!

UVA dosen’t look soley on the scores, they only play 1 part in the entire application. Write some killer essays and such and I would say you have a shot.

Do essays really count as much as people say for UVA admissions?

Anyone else?

I would apply if I were you.

New SAT just came in.

Super score of 1870 and I’m taking the Math II, BioM and US History SATs December 4th.

590CR, 640M, 640W.

I have a naviance graph with 300 data points. GPA on y-axis, SAT on x-axis. There is a clearly defined horizontal line, stretching all the way to 2400, where the majority of people above it got in, and the ones below didn’t. (A few outliers, of course)

My school uses Naviance too. For UVa, it has data ranging from 2008-2010 on the acceptances of students to this school (I’m from NoVa btw) and the average accepted GPA was a 4.25, average accepted SAT is an 1885. You have a good shot. I would still apply if I were you. UVa has a holistic approach, they said so when I visited on November 11th for the information session/tour!
