Low SATII scores...

Hey.. Posted this in another thread but decided to post a thread on it instead... Are low SATII scores a big negative for a Columbia engineering applicant? I have a 29 ACT ( which I hope to get up to a 30+ ). I have a 3.8 unweighted GPA in school with flying aircraft as my hook ( speaking a few languages ). However, I got a 650 in my SATII Math 2c and Physics which is pretty bad. Does this affect my chances a whole lot to the extent that it could become a reason to reject me? I will be applying as an International student since I am an Indian passport holder.

Thanks

Yeah, the probably will hurt you. I don't know how much, though. It might not be all too bad. Couldn't you retake them?

My concern is, what if my score doesnt improve or worse, goes lower? Would they still look at the best score ( which still sucks ) ?

Jai--my son got into Columbia (ED) with an SAT 2 of 640 in math 2c, and didn't take physics SAT 2. Yet he was admitted as an astro major--so, I'm thinking lower SAT 2s are not the kiss of death. His Sat 1 was far higher, though.

in the college a low SAT2 math 2c can be brushed off alot more easily. Besides a 640 in math 2c for the college is good. For SEAS however it hurts your chances if it is below a 700....math is a fundamental basis for engineering and they want to know whether or not you will get killed in your basic math classes. On the other hand if you got straight As in tough calc classes in HS then maybe that can balance out....otherwise you should rethink the whole engineering thing or just hope for the best.
