OP, What kind of courses are you taking and where do kids go from your high school? If your school regularly sends A students to top schools or you think your SAT scores are not in line with your abilities, you may want to take the ACT and see if you’re competitive for additional schools. Some private NY schools use HEOP money in addition to their own financial funds-- but you have to be competitive for those schools.

What about looking at test optional schools? Your GPA is not that bad.

Here is a list from fairtest.org: [SAT/ACT Optional 4-Year Universities | FairTest](ACT/SAT Optional List - Fairtest)

You will probably also want to look at schools that meet 100% demonstrated need.

People from my school generally gets on average of 1500-1600 SAT scores with writing. Very few people get into top schools like Yale, Princeton, Columbia etc. Do you think its possible if i can replace my low SAT CR score with a high ACT english score? I might score lower on the ACT math and other things in the ACT.

@mom6350: I recommend schools in my state (NY) and not far from where my home is. None of the schools on that list is from NY. Like maybe one is from NY but that’s really far.

oh i took AP classes my junior year. (chemistry and BC calc). Senior year i’m going to take more APs… Freshmen year, i took some honors.

Usually, schools look at one whole score and don’t pick and choose parts of each test (ACT or SAT). That said, one of my kids scored a lot better on the ACT than the SAT (about the equivalent of 300-400 points).

Schools either look at all your ACT subscores or all your SAT subscores–they won’t mix and match scores. (ACT and SAT have different formats so really aren’t interchangable.)

The ACT has 3 sections that may be a problem for you since you had problems with SAT CR: English (grammar, usage, punctuation, sentence structure, rhetorical construction); reading (reading comprehension, vocabulary); science (which is mostly reading comprehension, but of science information together with some graph reading)

I took the SATs like twice already and my plan was to take it 3 times. and study for each section… It turns out i’m studying the CR last and will retake in November… Now thatt i’m getting suggestions on taking the ACT, i haven’t studied for ACT and i’m confused if i should continue studying for the CR or just forget about the SAT and start studying for the ACT…

Oh wow. thanks for the list of schools! (:

NYU, Ithaca College, and Wagner college is optional? i don’t believe that. lol

Any of these have chemical engineering programs? or anything related to that?

If you notice, there’s a code next to NYU: 5, so there are conditions.

This is from NYU’s admissions page:

To be eligible for admission, applicants are expected to submit results from one of the following testing options:

The SAT Reasoning Test; or
The ACT with Writing Test; or
Three SAT Subject Test scores; or
Three AP exam scores; or
The International Baccalaureate Diploma; or
Three IB higher-level exam scores (if you are not an IB Diploma candidate); or
Results from a nationally accredited exam that is considered locally to signify the completion of secondary education and is administered independently of the student’s school.

Note: Students who submit SAT Subject Test, AP, or IB scores (for students not submitting an IB Diploma) must submit: one literature or humanities score; one math or science score; and a score from one test of the student’s choice in any subject. For applicants to the Stern School of Business, one of these exams must be in mathematics.

OP, I guess you didn’t actually look at the Fair Test site that two people provided links to. At some point you’ll have to start doing some of your own research instead of waiting to be spoon fed here.

since the OP needs complete full aid, then many of these test optional schools won’t work because they don’t give much/any aid.

The student needs a carefully planned list that deals with his limitations…very low income and low SATs. That rarely means that the student will have many options.

The OP might benefit from reading this thread for ideas: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/291483-update-what-i-learned-about-free-ride-scholarships.html

I have no idea where you get these links from. and thanks ^

It’s nice that you put together this list, but many if not most of the schools on it are irrelevant to the poster, unless he wants to study torah.

This. You’ve been given several sites to look at and enough information that you can look up what you need on your own.

If you don’t like the list, as posted, please feel free to edit and repost it yourself.
