i wouldn't be surprised if you got in. it seems to me that you could have a 700 on the SAT and they would still let you in if you had a decent GPA. it's so utterly ridiculous. it's like you can be completely test incompetent but if you did your homework then they'll let you in.

The acceptance rate for those with a GPA for those with above a 4.0 GPA is over 90%. All else considered service hours and all, I'd say you're a pretty safe bet.

What does grade inflation mean?
It doesn't sound good.

I really don't think my teacher just gave me my A's for doing nothing
I've taken the same rigor of classes that the top students in my school has and managed great grades. Isn't that good enough to prove that the grades I worked extremely hard for is well deserved?

The problem is, is that if your school's curriculum prepared you well, then hypothetically speaking you would perform at a similar level on the standardized tests. While this doesn't necessarily mean that a 4.3 corresponds to a 2400, the standardized tests are supposed to test aptitude in their respective fields, and if you can get an A in the class, then it would be reasonable to assume that you could get a 600 (a little above average) on the section as well. Of course, the way UCs calculate admissions, this little inconsistency is probably not going to hurt you too much.

The test scores are definitely not consistent with the GPA. You should try preparing for the college admission tests using prep books and such. On a superficial level, you would be a slight reach into UCI. However, with the extracurriculars you have, you may be a shoe in. If your family income is under 60k and you are in ELC, then you are a match for UCI.

edit: I just read that you're aiming for Civil Engineering. For CivE, you would be a slight reach in any case. Make sure you apply for an alternative major outside of the school of engineering. That will give you high chances of getting in. You may switch into civil engineering after you get into UCI as you please.

haha. Alright, fine. He is a match for UCI. His GPA definitely makes up for the test scores. I have a hard time with saying he's a match for engineering though. My situation was similar two years ago as some people on this forum can recall. I had a high gpa and decent sat2 scores but lackluster sat1 scores. I was a bit too cocky because I felt like I was a good match for some schools. However, with my lack of knowledge, I chose engineering for both first and second majors (stupid move) and lost my chance at a few schools. After *****ing at some adcoms, I found out I was able to get into these schools if I were to have a more feasible second major.
