LOW SATS vs. GPA??

I was wondering how much does the SATs factor in admissions because I recently took the May SATs and I got a 1250. However my GPA is 3.8. Do you think the colleges will regard one higher than the other.

[Note: I also just recently moved to the U.S. so how much will that help my chances?]

wait a second a 1250 on the NEW SAT. Yes it will affect you! TAKE it again or better yet take the ACT so you don't hafta send that score. wow. Certainly any top-tier or even high second-tier school will look down at that low of a score (no offense). Your GPA is nice but im guessing your school is easy?

A 1250 out of 2400 is exceptionally bad. But look on the bright side, you could have done wosre. Some girl at my school got a 1050.

1250 will get rejected from all large good schools...
but u said u have ESL status..

is ur score 200 verbal,250 writing,800 math.. if it is, u can prob. explain it somehow...

but its still best to retake.. and get at least 400 v, 500 w, 800 math in ur situation..

My friend and I figured out that 900 is the lowest score you can get if you answer no questions. If you do start answering questions and you get them wrong, the lowest is a 600. My advice: don't even do the reading or writing, just the math. 300+300+800= is a alright considering esl status.

correction: only answer the verbal+writing questions u are 100% sure about..
and write the essay... u dont lose points for writing a bad essay.. and the stupidest ppl i know get 4/12 and 5/12 on the essay and they write worse than ESL students...

so if u follow our advice, u can pull off a 1700 with some studying
that will put u in position to have a chance in decent state schools w/ ESL status

maybe he just added verbal + math?

yea.. many ppl do that these days..
if thats it and hes ESL, its good

"the stupidest ppl i know get 4/12 and 5/12 on the essay and they write worse than ESL students"

I received a six on the essay and i am sure as hell not stupid. The graders are very subjunctive and obiously not well trained, as in scoring with length and such. How is it that i got a 12/12 on the act essay but 6/12 both times on the sat essay? I know a lot of smart people who get crappy scores on the essay. What your saying is that i, and others like me, write almost as bad as esl students.

Hmm....I think maybe he just added V and M...

6 is the borderline between intelligence and stupidity..

i said 4s and 5s..

cause they try to "standardize it" so that the most ppl get 6s-10s
and few get 10> and 6<...

so dont worry about a 6.. its pretty average...

They do not grade by length, people frustrate me sometimes. A longer essay usually has MORE CONTENT and is usually MORE INDEPTH. A 1 page essay that is incredibly deep and proves the point will get a better score than a crap essay that is two pages. Also, if you only have one page, that is pretty much an intro, a body paragraph, and a conclusion, or no conclusion, which shows lack of organization, which would also give you a lower score. They do not just say: Long essay, 10, Short essay 7, Long essay 9, Short essay 4 and assign random numbers. The first time i took it, I filled all the room, the second time I used 1.5 pages. The first time I got an 8, the second I got a 10. I had a much more solid essay the second time with much better examples and I knew I scored better.

wait.. lol I completely forgot about the writing. What I meant was 1250 for critical reading and math but I got 1850 altogether.. yeah 1250/2400 would suck.

and I'm a she.
