LOW SATS vs. GPA?

I was wondering how much does the SATs factor in admissions because I recently took the May SATs and I got a 1250. However my GPA is 3.8. Do you think the colleges will regard one higher than the other.

[Note: I also just recently moved to the U.S. so how much will that help my chances?]

If you are going to a school that is known NOT to have grade inflation, oen where 3.8 is very hard to achieve, you will be in better shape than one where lots of students have 3.8 GPAs.

Having recently moved to the US, your SAT score will be seen in a different light if english is not your first language. So if you got a high math score and lower verbal, you're in good shape.

where are you applying to? first, different schools look at the SAT differently... some give it more weight than others. however, like zagat said, i think most schools will look at your SAT score differently since you've only been in the US for a short time. i know two recent immigrants, one who got into caltech and the other who got into cornell, who both had subpar SAT scores compared to their averages.

Well the reputation of my school is pretty good (btw the score is critical reading + math)- I mean its in the top 10 of the state. I plan on going to Trinity, Wesleyan, or Boston College. So if I got a higher score on the math section but a rather average score (i.e. 630) on the critical reading, then I don't have to worry too much?

Where ar you from and did you know english before arriving in the US?

Well, I just moved to America, but I had been previously living in Vancouver for a few years, but before that, moved from Nepal. My english has been described as pretty fluent, as they did teach english in Nepal. So I have been speaking english for a while (6 years?) but I suppose grammar is my weakness.

is 1250 on a 1600 scale or a 2400 scale?

well its 1850/2400, but the 1250 is math + critical reading

You should get a break, but I'd certainly try to raise those scores for your schols of choice. More of a break if you're low income.
