Hi. I am a senior undergraduate at a top 10 school and want to get a PhD in Plant Biology. My overall GPA is ~3.6, and my science GPA is slightly above a 3.4. I have very, very solid EC's, but have yet to take the GREs (I anticipate they will be fine, though). I would like to go to school out West (ideally at a UC e.g. Berkeley, Davis). Personal problems my freshmen year led to my getting a C-, C+ and two B's in core Bio/Chem classes one semester, which devastated my GPA (and my heart due to the personal matters). Should I stay in school during the fall for an extra semester to boost my GPA, or are these schools out of my reach in the first place?
