Low scores on SAT II?

I’m a high school student about to go into my senior year this fall. Last fall I took two SAT subject tests, and I scored pretty low on both. 600 on chem, and 550 on math II. I was thinking about taking them again; I’m definitely going to take math II again, as that can be easily bumped up. Chem, however, is where I am hesitant. I haven’t really reviewed anything chemistry since my sophomore year, but a 600 is not quite high. Would such a score affect my college apps? I know some colleges don’t participate in score choice and I’m afraid a non-700 score would affect my chances of getting into more competitive colleges. I just recently took AP Physics 1 this (junior) year, and AP tests come out in a couple days, so I am not sure how I did. Should I attempt to cram Chemistry to take again in August, or should I attempt to take the Physics SAT subject test (for a science test instead of chem)? Or should I just stick to only math II, because I already taken an AP test in Physics?

I’m very conflicted, and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!!

If you can, try and hide those scores. I’m not sure if schools have the same policies regarding SAT IIs as they do for normal SAT/ACT scores, but I’m pretty sure most places allow you to self-report those types of supplemental tests.

Bringing math II up is a good idea. Definitely take physics as well (assuming you do well on the exam). Since you took AP physics this year, it’s still relatively fresh. The summer’s the best study time you’re going to get. Out of curiosity, is there a reason you decided to take chem? If it’s a major that you’re interested in, taking it again is a good idea. You can take 3 on one day if you need to. Good luck!

I took a regular chem class because my school didn’t offer AP chem at the time. I loved the class & I did fairly well during the class as well. The only pitfall was that I heard about the SAT IIs in the summer and the August option was not available so I had to wait until October. Then I was too preoccupied with the workload from my other classes which didn’t give me the time to study a lot… hence the lower scores. I think I might just take Physics since it is fairly fresh in my head. Thank you for the responses!!
