low test scores-- question for current Kenyonites.

I was wondering how forgiving is Kenyon for low test scores (comparatively) in the admission process.. Any experiences?

their process is considered "holistic," but how low are we talking?

I recieved a 25 on the act. <--- Killer, I know..

Some of my sub-scores aren't super low, it's just that math and science killed me. I've been studying and practicing like a mad man for the upcoming test this saturday, and I'm confident that my composite score will be raised to a 27.

My current sub-scores:

C: 25
E: 28
M: 19 .. timing KILLED me
R: 31
S: 21

I realize Kenyon, along with all LACs, use a "holistic" approach, but I'm sure there is a cut-off for low act scores..

On the US News website is states that 5% of incoming student had a composite ACT score that was 23 or lower..

It takes guts to post scores like that on here...congrats on that. I don't think we can give you a good outlook on your possibility for admission without grades, classes, and ECs etc. I would say aim to get your ACT score into the middle 50% range which is 28-32. From what I know that is the true cut off to have a realistic chance for admission unless you are superb in other areas.

Ok, I found your profile on an older post. Things look pretty good overall, nothing jumps out as a negative beyond a few random grades and your ACT. Just get that score boosted by a few points and best of luck!

Haha, thanks. I'm not embarrassed to post that because I know it isn't a true representation of everything I've learned in my high school career.

Also, I know Kenyon is HUGE on interest, and I've expressed a lot of that to my admission counselor! I will also be applying ED.

Thanks for the honest evaluation.

I worry about my less-than-astounding standardized test scores as well, but from what I've heard, it seems that Kenyon looks at the applicant as an actual person rather than several test scores plugged into a formula. And early decision will certainly give you a leg up (that's my plan). Good luck!

I am a current freshmen at Kenyon this year. My highest composite score was a 25, but it is important to remember that Kenyon only looks at the highest scores in each section if you've taken the test multiple times. So, when my application was reviewed my ACT score was a 27. This may have helped me a lil' bit. So, there is hope. My best advice is to show interest, write amazing essays, and visit campus.

Great News! I just got my NEW ACT score and I got a 28!!!

mucho congrats! Good luck. :)

word on the street is that the admissions office might be making test scores optional in the next couple years. Don't know for sure, but I get the impression they're pretty chill about that sort of stuff.
