I am a rising Junior studying psychology.
I currently have a low GPA of 2.92 but I am so passionate about becoming a clinical psychologist. I want to apply for graduate school program after graduation. I have read success stories about low GPAs but I have also heard that I don’t have a chance. What are my chances of getting into a fully funded Ph.D. program? Would it be beneficial for me to take a gap year to get a job or would that hurt my chances? Can anyone provide some insight on my situation?
Most grad schools have a 3.0 minimum to apply and psychology programs are very competitive. I just applied for my masters in a different field so I can only help a little. To be honest I would try to get that GPA up too/over a 3.0 as much as you can. Then work for a couple of years and eventually apply for a masters program. That way you can show future PhD committees that you can handle grad school. Most of my friends/people I know go this route and are able to get into a PhD program. Good luck!
