Low UW, Solid Class Rank for Ivies (Not HYP)

My Uw gpa is right now a 3.65, and will likely end up in a range from 3.62-3.71 UW. However, my weighted gpa is a 5.43/6, with my class rank around 7%. My schedule each year has been rigours (7 APs, the rest Honors) and I have a 1550/2250 (800M) SAT. ECs - two club vice presidencies, economic club - won stocks simulator contest. I;m also listing family responsibilities - watching little brother and picking him up from his school after my parents' divorce, volunteering for local youth basketball league, and working as a camp counselor each summer for the past 5 summers. Will the gpa kill my chances?

Unless you are coming from an Ivy feeder school it may be, though it’s obvious the grading system is rigorous since you are still top 7%.

They will definitely be reaches but not out of the question. It will help if you’re from a less represented state, are low income, first gen…

Would the 3.7 be a major difference from the 3.65?

Also, I’m writing this in the additional information session, but my grades dropped because of my parents’ divorce and my increased family responsibilities. Would that help my case at all?

It’s rank that’s important, not GPA. Aheaven the non HYP ivies, most, literally, and certainly those from average high schools, are val or sal.

Excuses are tough. These schools can’t accept most of those with perfect grades and scores. They see kids with cancer, those who lost a parent, the homeless-- they see it all. With 50% of the population divorced, you may want to think twice about citing it as a reason for lower grades.

Throw in these apps, but make sure you have solid match schools you also love!
