Recs are coming from 2 teachers that like me. Counselor rec could be better, but our school is large... counselor doesn't know anyone. For chicago, i'll be getting a peer rec from my business partner/ friend. We work on the website stuff together.

Essays are looking good. Getting good comments.

UCs do not super-score. They will use the best single-day report.

@Gumbymom‌
Darn forgot to put that in. 4.04 UC GPA.

@woogzmama‌
You are correct! I just put superscore for the sake of Chicago/Rice/USC because they all either superscore or require all scores.

Do you have to declare your intention to major in CS if you are applying to the L & S schools at UCB and UCLA. I’d say your chances are very good (high-match/low-reach) if not. I know that it’s an “impacted” department, and brutally selective, if you do have to declare it. The same goes for UCSD, which I’d say is a solid match otherwise. Chicago and Rice are realistic reaches, and USC is probably a match (unless you are applying to a more selective program). Is CS impacted at Davis? If so, then it might be a high-match; if not, then Davis should be pretty safe for you. FYI, my son got into Davis and UCSD with lower stats than yours, but he was not applying to any “impacted” programs.

You say Web Designer/Coder. What projects have you taken on?

Also, they don’t care about anything before high school. If your activity simply carried over to freshman year, I don’t know if I’d even list it

@noel597‌ I don’t want to put myself waaay out there so i’ll be a bit vague about it. I’ve made tons of sites. I have a current news site similar to upworthy right now. I’ve created a website that i’ve sold to a client that had to do with a health topic. I’ve made a bunch of other websites like a local directory for a certain profession. I have much more websites/projects that I won’t mention, but that’s just a few of the ~15 i’ve made. There’s more, can’t remember them all, but I’ve let some of the failed projects to expire and my domain registrar won’t let me see my order history for domains.

Hmmm I see. To be honest, I’m running pretty short on EC’s and I felt that learning a foreign language and learning about religion was pretty important.

Yes, I have to mark that I am applying to L&S CS, but I think during the application process, I am considered an undeclared L&S major. This is for Cal, but I have a feeling UCLA works the same way with their CS & Linguistics major. I think you might be talking about Cal’s EECS and UCLA’s CS, which you’re right about them being selective, but I hear employers value CS degrees from both L&S and Engineering all the same. Engineering majors as a whole are generally impacted at UC’s, so for Davis and UCSD i’ll be applying to their non-engineering CS majors in their L&S and Mathematics department respectively. According to USC engineering school site, applying to their engineering school is no more difficult than applying to any other department, so that sounds good. Thank you for the chance and I hope your son is doing well; he sounds like a great student!

EDIT: Oh an yeah LOL Rice and Chicago are in leagues of their own. I don’t know really. I think i’ve shown interest in Rice as much as I could have. I haven’t visited cause I’m low income, but I’ll be interviewing and my essays will be very specific and genuine.

bump

UCLA/UCB: Low Reach
USC/UCSD: High Match
UCD: Match
Rice: ? Unsure but I think a High Match
