The GW thread got me wondering...what is the deal with Syracuse, especially the people/social life? I have heard some bad stuff about the school, and I'm wondering if anyone has any personal experience.

Syracuse does have its share of wealthy kids and kids who don't care about much besides fashion. But, like GWU and NYU it is also big enough to let everyone find their own niche so any stereotypes of the "typical" SU student are just that: stereotypes, not an accurate description of everyone who attends. There is plenty going on on the weekends besides frat parties and Syracuse is not as dreary a place as people tend to make it out to be. Academically, SU has come a long way as well and I would say that it is on par with BU and GWU in many areas. As with all schools, what one person sees as a negative may be viewed positively by a different person, so the best bet is to visit - preferrably when school is in session - and judge for yourself.

Thanks!!

Has anyone read the Syracuse comments on StudentsReview.com?? I almost started crying when I read them. They make the kids sound HORRIBLE!!! Anymore comments???

anyone?????????

StudentsReview is a terrible site, just about always shows the worst side of every school.

Syracuse is pretty nice for an urban campus. The academics are good, and NewHouse especially is reputable. There is a lot of school spirit, due to the great athletics. Syracuse (the city) is a little drab, but not so much the part around the university. Right down the hill is this cute street with restaurants and shops and stuff (Marshall Street). Syracuse can be a dangerous city though, so no walking alone at night in dark alleys. It also has a lot of snow. If you're used to it, you don't really notice it until, say, April, when you're really ready for spring, but if you're not used to it, I'd say you might be somewhat depressed from about november to april.

There's definately some negative students/aspects of Syracuse. However, the student body is very big, and like Carolyn said, every student can find their own niche. It is a very diverse student body, and everyone I know that goes there seems to have easily found people they like and fit in with. The city itself, is average, but there is stuff to do. Also, it is one of the snowiest cities in the country.
