Lower and Upper division courses

I am planning on going to a state school because I finished a lot (if not all) of my general education needs in high school (AP classes, community college classes, and university classes). So I was wondering if I am able to transfer them to the university I want to go to.

After that, I was wondering if I can start on upper division courses right away.

I’m not sure about the upper division, that’s a very good question.

As for the others, at least your AP should transfer. Schools will have certain scores that they require from the test to offer you credit. For the community college and university it might depend on how those credits transfer to that school. If it’s just very basic credits, like English 1010 and nothing strange then everything might transfer okay, but sometimes schools won’t take different humanities/science credits. However, you might be able to get something done about that since you did take them in high school.

You should try talking with advisers at that school.

It depends on the course, department, school, and whether or not it requires a prerequisite (and if you completed them in HS). For many upper division social sciences and humanities courses, you could take them freshman year without transferring any courses. But for an upper division chemistry course, a lower level chemistry course will probably be required first. There are also some courses that specify junior or senior standing.

To put it simply, look at the course catalog and see if you meet the requirements for the desired course.
