My D is likely going to attend Mich as an LSA student. How large are the freshmen classes? Are they all large lectures? Will she avoid some of that because of her AP credits in things like US History, Eon, Calc, etc.? She is used to a small, private high school with a lot of teacher contact and involvement. Thanks.

Well most lectures have a discussion component, which usually contains 20-30 students. Those are taught by Graduate Student Instructors (GSIs--TA's, if you prefer) and are much more personal than lectures. However, all professors have office hours and are very approachable. I came from a relatively small HS, and I've really had no trouble fitting in. Regarding the AP credit, I don't think that will help in getting out of large lectures. Some of the higher level courses might be smaller, though. Honors students usually have access to smaller sized course.
