Lower Division UC Transfers

So does anyone have any information about lower division transfers? I was accepted into UC Davis (Civil Engineering), UC Santa Barbara (Mechanical Engineering) last year in my senior year but I stayed at a CC for a year because of some personal stuff. I applied as a lower division transfer to UCI (Mechanical Engineering) and UC Riverside (Mechanical Engineering) because they were really the only ones offering it. Any advice or I formation would be great! Thanks!

Advice or information as to what exactly?

Do they rarely happen? Or what is the likely hood of the UC’s accepting lower division transfers?
Also, I know that the UC’s want the pre-reqs done, but do they take into consideration if not all the pre-reqs are offered? I haven’t heard much at all about the stats or just anyone applying as a lower division.

You haven’t heard much because it pretty much doesn’t happen. As you said they want your pre-requisites finished and because they disregard your high school transcript they generally don’t have enough academic history to admit lower division transfers. Very rarely to people apply as lower division transfers and they pretty much never get in. The same is also true for those that apply as senior standing. Until the UCs move to a more comprehensive holistic review where they evaluate your high school transcript as well as your CC transcript then they probably won’t be admitting lower division transfers for awhile.

On a side note, the UC’s claim they do not hold it against you for admission purposes if your CCC does not offer articulated major-prep work and may just admit you as a pre-major.

Definitely appreciate hearing that. I hope it goes well. A pre-major status sounds like bliss at the moment.

^^You still have to apply as a junior to transfer as a pre-major, so it really doesn’t change anything. The only people that generally get in as lower division transfers are athletes and art majors (film, music, theatre, etc) things of that nature where the admission process is completely separate from typical admissions.

Well we’ll see what happens. I don’t think they’ll blame me personally if there are no major engineering pre-reqs available. I mean come on, I live in the middle of nowhere. Valley is all agriculture and stuff.
