So what is the lowest ranked (class) person that you have heard of that has gotten into Chicago?

top 20? 30? 40? 50? 90?

So what is the lowest ranked (class) person that you have heard of that has gotten into Chicago?

top 20? 30? 40? 50? 90?

Well, it depends on the size of the class. A better indicator is top %. I've seen quite a few 5-10% people admitted, but fewer 10-20% people admitted, although its certainly not impossible. Another factor you have to consider is the type of school...

im top 17% of my public HS class and was admitted early. they really dont care as much about the individual things like rank, scores, ECs as they care about the whole picture and how you would fit Chicago. btw, all of my SAT1 and SAT2 scores were 750+ with 3 800s.

I know of a kid who got in in the top 50%.

i'm top 24 percent. if i get in, i'd be so happy.

i'm a junior...only top 17%, and I doubt I'm moving up (this has been a bad semester), probably down more. Sophomore year destroyed me the most though. UChi is like some far away dream school.

ohnoes: yes, that is what I meant - the %.

Sarahbara: Really? what were his/her other stats? Did they have a special talent or cure the common cold or somtheing?

I don't think rank is that big of a deal, maybe that kid went to a super competitive school where the top 25% were 4.0 . I've only got a 3.8 and I'm 7% at my school.

This makes me cry. I was 15.9% for three years, I was always moving up and now it went down to 17% while my GPA went up!

Upsetting...I had my Chicago interview (RD) and it went well and it seems like such a great school for me. I'm at a public school, and I really messed up my freshman year. Sometimes I feel like I've worked hard the other three for nothing.

The kid who got in in the top 50%, he was super enthusiastic about the school, did an on-campus interview and was pretty intellectual and quirky, very Chicago. I agree with collegeconfusion that I don't think it's too all important. I think bad scores and bad grades can be a difficult thing to surmount, but top 15% should be fine, depending on what GPA (and standardized test scores) that translates too...remember, if any school is going to look beyond it, Chicago will! They even say on their acceptance letters, literally, that you, the acceptee, were not chosen based on numbers. They think it's that important to state.

So then I guess a larger question is what about grades/GPA/transcript? What if it's a super-competitive school where there's no grade inflation for example?

then most of those dont rank since those students' would be effectively screwed out of many very great schools.

Just so you don't worry too much, rank is not a huge factor. Some people in this thread got in every though being below the top 10%. I'm valedictorian of my class, and I was deferred. So, don't worry about rank, as long as your application is strong.

wow i'm also top 17% in my class. that makes 4 of us with the same exact rank. strange!

i've been in love with u of c ever since i was in 8th grade. just this past weekend, i was at the regenstein library special collections doing research for a history project on the anti-vietnam war movement. i found lots of primary sources that would help with my arguments, so that was good. but even better, sitting behind me in the research room was the dean (or former dean?) of the college who also authored the book i had just been reading. what a strange coincidence!
i then went up to the microform room working ALONGSIDE u of c students. lol that made me happy.. all in all, i spent 7 hours (with no breaks) at regenstein.

gianscolere you're lucky...when I research for history day projects I go to the uconn library and the last person who I was excited to see there was Diana Taurasi;) Just wanted to add in that history day is AWESOME. The last time I really did a project was 9th grade because my high school isn't very supportive of it but I loved it in middle school!

since i started doing history day in 6th grade, i was hooked. it's been optional from 8th grade onward, and the school i'm at now doesn't do history day so i have to compete on my own. i pushed myself so hard freshman year because i knew i was in for some tough competition especially with the juniors and seniors from lincoln park HS, a local chicago high school whose teachers are highly experienced history day advisors. that year, i managed to place in the top 2 (illinois does not give out exact rankings), the other student being another history day regular. i was out of state last year as a sophomore and didn't place at all because my project was done haphazardly due to an unusually heavy workload. i'm back in illinois this year and very determined to make it back to nationals for the fourth time. it's so hard to get into the finals but i'm working really hard to place. i love this competition so much that i'm willing to let my grades slip a little so i can devote more time to it,

if i don't get into u of c for undergrad, i'll surely apply for grad school, possibly the law school. i'm also looking at sarah lawrence college, which is heavy on the arts and writing and is near new york city. vassar would be quite a stretch for me too. there's not much pressure on me to get into these schools, however, because i'll most likely end up at the college where my mom works, a top 100 school nonetheless but a lot less selective as the other colleges i'm considering.
