I didn't see a Cal version of this thread, so I figure I'll start it.

My GPA was eventually calculated as 3.35, and I'm a political science major. I had a 3.95 over my 61 most recent units, which were at CCCs. I had strong major-related work experience, and a strong essay. I was only a Spring admit, though.

Can anyone beat me? I'm sure there'll be a few. Post your major, GPA, and the factors that got you in despite of your GPA. I'm particularly interested in other GPA-deficient political science majors, obviously.

In a few months, we’ll get good laughs in when people waste $60 bucks thinking they have a good chance of getting accepted by Berkeley with a 3.1 gpa.

Your odds of getting into UCB with a 3.1 GPA are far higher than a winning lottery ticket, and I spend roughly $60 a year on the lottery. In fact, I’d be willing to bet a 3.1 GPA with all prereqs filled and an interesting essay would have a better chance getting admitted than a 3.9 GPA with half of their prereqs filled in 1 year and an utterly awful essay.

nothing beats a great hardship story. I sorta think its like watching a really good movie and wanting see what happens to the character afterward.

Right, and I’m willing to bet a 3.9 gpa with all prereqs filled will beat out a 3.1 gpa with all prereqs filled/interesting essay any day. Competition for Berkeley is tough, if you’re expecting a bulk of your peers to have only half their prereqs done, have fun living in that pipe dream.

You also spend 60 dollars a year on the lottery… I am not sure if you fully comprehend how small the odds are for winning the lottery or you enjoy the thrill of losing money. In either case, the state of California thanks you for donating money.

Will Cal and LA reject you with half prereqs done by the time you apply and be able to finish before transfer even though you have a Good gpa like 3.8 and 3.9?

Doesn’t matter as long as you finish the prereqs before you transfer. I had about 3/4 of my prereqs done when I applied in fall and finished all my prereqs at spring.

xViral, have you ever taken a good look at the statsfinder? Even UCB’s admissions office has stated that a HUGE chunk of applicants aren’t even qualified to get into any UC just by the base requirements.

The odds aren’t nearly as bad as you’d think. It’s kinda rude to go around telling 3.1 GPA people to not even bother.
