lowest possible grade for core classes

Is it true that the lowest possible grade a student can get for a core class, such as lit hum, uni. writing, etc. is a B-?? Unless, of course, you really bomb everything and the professor petitions for the dean to give you a lower grade

This is just what I heard from various students

Never heard that one before...

^nope, i highly doubt that is the case, but in practice very few grades lower than B-s are given out, because attendance is compulsory and if you go to most of the classes and do a little work there's only so badly you can fair.

My lithum instructor gave C's to everyone in the class on the first essay. Some say (or rather HOPE), this was just an intimidation tactic meant to scare the **** out of us, in which case it worked. But then again, some of my suitemates/floormates are being handed A's like candy on Halloween. It really depends, but i agree, you really have to not care AT ALL to get lower than B-.

^some teachers use such scare tactics, don't worry about it, they'll round up grades to B+s / A-s. the A's like candy pi*ses me off though, unnecessary grade inflation.

The A's like candy are "sweet sweet sweet, like brown sugar*."

I've looked at a lot of transcipts (on which A distributions are given). Based on my perusals, in Lit Hum ~75% of the kids get some form of an A. Highest I've seen is 94%. So don't sweat it. Although your starting this thread makes me lose a lot of respect for you. (I don't like slackers.)

Actual phrase from one of my UW papers. Grade? A+ baby. Sweet? Yes. Like brown sugar.

I've ONLY heard this on THIS BOARD. It doesn't make any sense in practice or in theory.

However, in any non-science/engineering class you've got to be pretty damn dumb AND pretty damn lazy to get a C.
