Lowest SAT score which got accepted?

Hey,
I was just wondering what is the lowest sat score you know/heard about which got accepted at dartmouth?

I'm aware that scores aren't the only factor in the admissions process and some
Students have hooks due to which they get accepted, but was just wondering.

Thanks!

I know a guy who got into Harvard with a 1360. (CR+M+W)

^I say BS alert there. Unless it’s the Harvard Extension school

A girl got a 1890 and got into Dartmouth at my school, but her parents, grandmother, and sister went there.

Remember that any of these numbers would be extreme outliers and not at all indicative of the potential to get into the school.

I agree with you But according to the Common Data Sheet, for the 400-499 range at Harvard, CR .13% and Writing .27%
If this person were that individual, they could have a pair of 430s and a 500 in math…Highly unlikely …

@t26 No BS here, the guy has graduated from Harvard and now writes a blog called Hopeless to Harvard. Google it if you wish.

People with a SAT of <2000? do get into Ivies or top universities - but it is a rare occurrence. Also mostly such applicants have hooks of some kind(athletics, research, unique talent?,URM+First Gen, etc) and everything else (GPA, ECs, Essay, etc) is great on their application.

While himanshusahay is partly true, he is only partly true.
I researched that guy (author of Hopeless to Harvard), and he’s Stanford Class of 2006.
Which means that he had the older SAT test, which was graded out of 1600 (CR + M), so him getting 1360 isn’t as bad as it looks like.

The author of Hopeless to Harvard being high school class of 2002 would have meant higher acceptance rates than the present day and also perhaps an easier applicant pool than the present applicant pools.

Man I feel so stupid now!

Sorry guys!

Well that clears things up. Heck, he scored better than me out of 1600. No blood no foul, himanshusahay.

But 1360/1600 is very respectable

It’s okay himanshusahay
I have a tendency to double-check everything.
BTW 1360 on the old SAT converts into 2040 on the new SAT, so… if you scored above that, you have hope!

Thanks for all the replies guys! =D

On CC, 600s across the board. An URM with a refugee background, admitted from the waitlist.

Girl from dds school got into Dartmouth and Stanford with 1890.she’s urm and very involved in hula/cultural stuff. She’s a Soph at Stanford now.

T26E4’s did you take it before 1995? Coz I believe a pre '95 SAT score of 1330 is approximately equal to a modern 1400.

perrazz — yes I took it in 1985 – before most of these folks were born!

Just accepted to D with a 26 ACT (1860-1910 SAT according to the SAT conversion chart). Anything is possible, I beg EVERYONE to chase their dreams.

Interesting question here. When looking at the SAT scores of someone who has been admitted, please consider whether they have other advantages such as whether they are legacy applicants, recruited athletes, celebrities or scions of celebrities, scions of tenured professors and administrators of the school and if their family has donated to the school. In the book “Price of Admission”, the author provides dozens of examples of students with sub-par credentials being admitted to the Ivies and other top schools based on the financial or political resources their families (parents, grandparents, etc.) provided or promised to provide the schools. This population is not insignificant and something the schools are not happy to discuss.
