lowest ssat and grades

Does anybody know the lowest ssat/grades somebody got but still got into one of the top schools? (Not saying my ssat's and grades suck)-just curious.

No, but it probably would've been a sports-star, legacy, URM, no financial aid, and willing to donate a lot of money to the school.

40th percentile, i dunno GPA, but 3rd generation legacy with last name on a building

Depends on what schools ... (from what we have heard) top schools won't dip below the 90's unless there are hooks. Next tier boarding schools have average SSATs in the 70's and 80's. (check Princeton Review). Lower tier boarding and day prep schools will be significantly lower .. 40's.

Again hooks make it easier for schools to overlook the SSAT score. Times have changed and private school education is available at many different levels. I attended a prep school (back in the 80's) which has expanded in enrollment, has lowered entry standards and even has added special programs for students with some learning disabilities. Got that from a teacher at the school.

Having said that ... I had two phone conversations with admissions personnel last week ... and both indicated that this was gonna be one of the most competitive years in recent memory for entry into their schools.

can legacies really help?

what I meant was how much can it help your application?

Hoover: Kent is a legacy, Otter. His brother was a '59, Fred Dorfman.
Flounder: He said legacies usually get asked to pledge automatically.
Otter: Oh, well, usually. Unless the pledge in question turns out to be a real closet-case.
Otter, Boon: Like Fred.

Bearcats, 40th percentile is pathetic. I can't believe you did that badly. Literally. I think you're lowering your score for legacy effect.

No... Bearcrat did not get 40th percentile.. He is obviously talking about someone else.lol

Oh, I see, lol. I was like, "please. idiot."

Does anybody know the lowest ssat/grades somebody got but still got into one of the top schools?

so of course my answer is I know somebody who ...

i had a 98% overall

However, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a building somewhere at Hotchkiss with the name "Bearcats" on it. That part made sense.

LOL bearcats is the mascot LOL

but that arent any buildings with the name bearcats...there is , however, a bearcat statue somewhere on campus, which the taftees painted red during "taft day"... that kid got owned by our head of school, who happened to be there guarding the bearcats...which was really funny

p.s they also pained our bulls at main gate red once, turned out that those bulls worth couple hundred thousand each, so we ended up calling the cops and got them arrested.. that one wasnt cool

school rivalry at it finest....

so much like UCC vs. St. Andrews

break each other's windows, egg-ed the headmasters house, blackmail.....

"p.s they also pained our bulls at main gate red once, turned out that those bulls worth couple hundred thousand each, so we ended up calling the cops and got them arrested.. that one wasnt cool"

Actually, they got caught red-handed. Literally. On the way back to Taft, they were pulled over for speeding. And they had red paint all over them. When the report came in about the vandalism, the Law put 2 and 2 together and...what must have seemed like a fine idea instantly became a major bummer.

EDIT: The Bearcat statue is in the "back" of the athletic complex, just outside the hockey rink. Looks like a lynx to me, but what would you have a lynx there for, right?

There are kids who post here with SSATs in the 40s so chill.

"Chill"? No such thing among CC applicants. :p

No Chill. Only Chaos. ;)

It's an interesting question... requires an anonymous response. In theory there is no lower limit to the scores from applicants that Andover will accept. Will someone venture forth with their low score and the fact that they now attend or were accepted to AESDCH? Doubtful, but intriguing nonetheless.
