Im going into my senior year with just above a 2.0 GPA and have taken the SAT once and without studying I got a 1680. My GPA is a 5.67 but I don't know the scale and I have been told its a 2.0.

I want to pursue a programming degree but I want to go out of state. I am thinking I should go to an out of state community college for two years and then transfer to a state university.

At my CC, it’s about $46 a unit now but for OOS students it’s $226. Think about that. I’m assuming you’ll be working full-time as well to support yourself in California.

Anyway, you have no chance at San Jose or UCLA with those current stats (with your particular major). Your CC GPA will override all of this, so if you do extremely well (my friend got denied to UCLA with a 3.6 so keep that in mind for computer science) I’d say you’re in.

Transfer students from California community college receive priority. This is law. Your stats are too low for these schools. As for a state school like San Jose, they accept people in tiers. First, it’s their local area. Then next, the surrounding areas. After that, the whole state and the rest of the country.

Now getting into a California community college is easy. You get the acceptance the day you apply pretty much. You’ll have to make sure you have your finances in order.

I bet you could get into somewhere like CSU Northridge or Humboldt, though.
