I'm a current freshman at Loyola University Chicago, as a finance and international business double major. Grades-wise I'm doing very well but I do not want to spend 4 years here; my question is how well the business program at BC is respected compared to Loyola's. From being in Chicago I can gather that Loyola is relatively well-respected within Chicago, but my main concern is that it could be difficult to get a job in New York with a degree from Loyola...so would I have more opportunities in both academics and internships by going to BC?

No comparison:

Boston College: #9 (BW), #24 (USNews)
Loyola Chicago: #110 (BW), #81 (USNews)

Of course rankings don’t tell the full story, but that’s a pretty large disparity from whichever way you want to look at it.

BC’s Carroll School of Management also has a top 15 finance program and is targeted by at least half the bulge bracket banks for New York front office positions. I don’t know too much about Loyola’s recruiting but I wouldn’t imagine that they send a lot of kids to NY based on its location and lack of name brand beyond Chicago.

I would say BC no question especially if you want to work in New York.

Boston College CSOM is def better

if you are thinking of transferring and you are after The Street, then put NYU-Stern at the top of your list.

NYU’s stern is good, but really if you’re considering transferring to BC then put Michigan and UPenn on the map as well.

There’s no comparison in terms of success and employment, BC>LC

Thanks for the replies. As far as my transfer list, I do have UPenn and NYU on my radar, however I wanted to consider BC as well in case the other two don’t work out. From what I can tell about Michigan’s business program, they would not be a good fit for me. Bulge bracket banking is what I’m after, so it looks like I’ve got my list together. Thanks for your help!

Is it easier to gain admission to BC than to NYU?..hmm…marginally at best, I’d say.
