Loyola Marymount acceptance letter already?

My daughter received a letter from LMU stating she had been accepted for admission with Honors at Entrance dated a few days ago. There is no mention of any merit based scholarship money though. Has anyone else received similar letters? And if a student were to receive any merit based scholarship money would it be stated in that letter or another letter that comes at a later date? This is our first kid to apply to college so we are newbies. Thanks for any info you may have or share with us.

I think you’ll receive another letter if you get a scholarship. Congrats to your daughter!

@notmadeofmoney what were your daughter’s stats?

2020 SAT
4.75 GPA Weighted, 4.0 UW
Ranked 1 out of 480 (Public school)
6 AP classes
Tons of EC’s including varsity volleyball and club volleyball, three years of student council elected positions, national charity league, works part-time, chess club, presented at leadership conferences, etc. Not sure if the EC’s mean that much in this case.

got accepted on Feb. 7th i think and nothing regarding scholarships

D was accepted Honors at entrance early admission several years ago. Then it was top 5%, received Arrupe scholarship and grants, etc. close to meeting FAFSA EFC, and invitation to Honors program. She had very similar stats have you heard on scholarships? Probably won’t know full package until late March, don’t dilly dally on FAFSA, etc. Good luck.

Should I be worried that my daughter hasn’t yet heard? I’ve seen several posts on this site of people who have been accepted already but we haven’t heard a thing yet. My daughter filed her application on January 1. She has a 3.98 UW GPA and 2100 SAT with many AP classes. She is also a recruited athlete and the coach told her she would likely get some scholarship money. But we haven’t received anything yet. Given people who filed after her have already heard, I"m starting to get nervous. Should we call the school? Her last name begins with W- do they review in alphabetical order perhaps?

Quick update on my daughter- this morning when she logged into my LMU, her admission status said “Admitted” instead of “application under review”. And a large envelope arrived in the mail for her today while she was at school. Certainly hoping for good news when she opens it up!

Has anyone who was originally deferred from EA heard back yet? I’m starting to get nervous!

Yes, daughter was originally deferred. Her status changed a couple weeks ago and she got big packet last week. @MarinCollegeMom - definitely sounds like good news!

Mrssoffel- mind saying her stats?! Congratulations to her and you!

Thank you! She applied in Film Production. GPA 4.00, unweighted; 4.25 weighted; Class rank: 8; lots of extracurriculars and community service; very strong letters of recommendation. I don’t know how to judge her essays but I think they could have been better. Good luck to you!

Have any marketing majors heard back yet?

Daughter received her acceptance today, but not via a thick envelope in the mail. Instead, she received a postcard inviting her to an overnight for accepted students. This prompted us to check her status on mylmu, which she had not even activated yet with her username and password, and on the MyPAW page, her status read ,“Admitted.” She is a dance major and just auditioned 1 1\2 weeks ago, so she didn’t expect a notification so fast. In MyPAW, it says her intended major is “Dance,” so we hope this means she was admitted not just into the school, but also into the BFA Dance major. Does anyone know if this means she’s accepted into Dance? Hopefully, the thick envelope will come soon!

I was at LMU last week for the presidential preview weekend. While there, I ate lunch with Damon Rago, a chair of the dance department (my major is engineering, we just happened to sit together) and a dance major. Essentially what Prof. Rago told me was that dance at LMU is not at a level where they will turn people away from the program unless they have never danced before. The auditions are mainly to weed that out, not to decide between technically skilled dancers.

So since your daughter was admitted, and I assume that she has some experience in dance, congratulations! She’s definitely been accepted into the dance program.

The thick envelope came today, and our daughter was accepted into the BFA dance program.

My D also admitted EA Honors, received letter with $ offer Feb 1. My question……we have heard that some students have been invited to a Preview Day. We have had no luck on the portal, when we try to access this it comes up NOT FOUND. Under ‘Events’ there are only tours to sign up for. She really wants to attend the Preview Day. Has anyone been successful signing up for a Preview Day or have any suggestions?

Preview day info is available in mylmu / admission calendar. It does say info for RSVP will be sent in March for Preview day in April.

Thanks @Catholicmum - I figured it out and signed her up!

I was told my letter was sent out Monday (which was 2 days ago), but I just got a letter for an event that I was invited to that specifies that only admitted students are invited…? Does this mean I was admitted and the letter/ mypaw update is just late?
