I would argue against religion as a factor. Per CDS it’s not looked at.
I would argue it’s religious breakdown is because if you are Jesuit, then you are mainly drawing a certain audience that affiliates with the religious background.

Just for more anecdata, my daughter (who was accepted) is Jewish, and has a lower GPA and lower SATs than your daughter, which seems baffling. (She also did not go out of her way to show interest, and we definitely have financial need.) But she had years of being very very focused on the area of her major (theatre) and she did audition.
Ultimately, admissions have so many variables, only some of which are personal or in the applicant’s control. It’s such a hard and opaque and not especially fair process for our kids to weather. I hope your daughter lands somewhere that she truly loves.
I would agree with you. They can’t be considering religion as a factor. However I do think they are evaluating fit with the Jesuit Values that they make clear all over their site. I’m thinking my daughter tried to shoehorn that a little bit towards the very end. I think it was her final application in RD and she was pretty burned out by then, used something else from another essay and tried to layer on a little Jesuit philosophy or something. Probably pretty easy to see through!
Congratulations to your daughter! I have Jewish friends whose daughter is at LMU and is very comfortable and happy there.
Oh, I’m so glad to hear that! I have been feeling a little weird about the prospect of her attending a Catholic school. We visited Loyola Chicago (where she also got in) last weekend and actually really liked the Jesuit values and mission, but still feel weird about their Jewish population being pretty small. I think it’s much more of a presence at LMU!
(I see I typed the wrong SAT score above, though—should be 1380, not 1280. )
That’s similar to my son’s school. Based on 7 years of Scoir data, only 1 student has been denied or waitlisted. This year, 8 kids applied EA from his class of 83 students. (It’s a small private school and it’s rare that any one school gets more than a handful of applications. 8 is insane). All were deferred and so far, everyone my son has heard from since yesterday were also waitlisted.
Nobody from his school has attended LMU the past couple of years. I am guessing they aren’t too keen on his school and they may be diing some yield protection. His college counselor is perplexed.
I do think this can make a difference. A handful of kids from my daughter’s school apply every year, but very few actually enroll. I don’t believe any kids from her school have matriculated at LMU in the last 3 years. There are many similar options on the east coast.
Could it be, with all the housing issues all of the schools have had the last 2 years, that colleges are being more prudent with their admittances? Maybe putting kids on waitlist to see where they are with housing to play it safe? Most overenrolled the last two years and it’s been a big issue.
My daughter has a UW3.84/W4.15, 8 AP/6H/4DE, 1430 SAT at a highly ranked competitive HS in CA. While her GPA isn’t that high, she’s got impressive ECs (EIC for two school publications, founder/club president, officers of a few service clubs, played varsity sport, 45+ international/national/regional journalism and art awards with 800+ volunteer hours, got waitlisted for psychology. I thought her essays were good, but essays and ECs are all subjective. I was in shocked! My friend said she may lack connection with Jesus and I think that checkbox is more important than I thought even though CDS says religion is not considered! Now need an essay to answer why she wants to stay on the wait-list with only limited chance to get off! Daughter is not enthusiastic about writing another paragraph to answer why. =(
I agree - all the high stats waitlisting is shocking. Maybe this year the waitlist movement will be more significant. Haven’t seen many (any?) rejections on this thread.
last year, 6,788 were waitlisted and 69 got off (so like 1%- eek). hopefully this year is different because it feels like so many more people got waitlisted
I had a different experience- I’m not christian, and disclosed that I was jewish on my common app. I also had lower stats (not by much- 3.90 GPA Uw and 4.2W) but was deferred EA and accepted ED2. I’m wondering if they accepted me ED2 for yield rate purposes?
I’m also an admitted Jewish student in class of 2027! I’ve committed because I applied ED2- but if she ends up committing i’d love to chat with her
4.2 is pretty good stats. Our daughter has a 3.8-weighted GPA. Congrats, and good luck!
It’s really going to depend on what aid they offer—I’m very eager to get that info. I’m sure she’d love to connect with you if she does commit!
She will get in to amazing schools. She has great stats. My son got in to Davis and Cal Poly Slo and waitlisted at LMU. Your daughter will have her pick of awesome schools to choose from.
Daughter waitlisted for film. Her letter stated that 20,000+ applied for 1,600 spots this year. Seems extreme. .
Applications were up a few 1000 from last year, bu presumably with an 18% yield they still accept between 8K and 9K to hit that enrollment. My daughter was also waitlisted, a bit to our surprise as she’s already into a couple of more selective schools but
Just found out son was accepted to LMU for business. Now we’re waiting for the financial aid notice.
