Loyola Marymount Dorm Options

My D was accepted and LMU is on the short list. We visited and it looks like a great school/campus. Which dorms are preferable? They don’t seem to offer singles. Are you able to place a refundable deposit since their merit/aid options aren’t out yet & that’s a definite in finalizing the decision. Thanks!

There’s some very good information about the dorms under the Housing option. We are from the Midwest and my son was particularly interested in the dorm that organizes city outings to L.A., as well as the dorm that organizes outdoor adventures/activities. Not sure about housing deposits being refundable, but we just received a letter from LMU that said their aid letter will be sent by early February (my S was accepted EA), so that should still give you plenty of time to make your decision.

Del Rey North and South are popular dorms, and they are newer than Rosecrans, Whelan and Desmond. All of these dorms are located in the same area of the campus. Doheny is also a nice dorm, and it is the only dorm in which a sink is in each room (besides the suite style dorm - McKay - which houses some Freshman but is located in another area of the campus). Doheny houses the Freshman honors students, but also has openings for non-honors students. It is also near the Freshman dorm section of the campus.

My D is in Doheny…she likes it because as the Honors Dorm, it is quiet (She is not an Honors student). The Del Reys seem to be more happening party wise if you like that (but I’m sure that’s a generalization and it does depend on the particular students!) I can’t remember if the housing deposit was refundable but I do feel like we had aid info before making the deposit. And the earlier you make it, the better your housing selection will be.

Should we put down the deposit prior to knowing what the financial aide package is? Daughter was accepted EA, so we were waiting around to see what that looked like prior to putting down a deposit.
