Deferred for both. Not surprised given how long we were waiting. Will be researching more schools and applying to other programs over the next month. Good luck to everyone else and the other schools applied for!!
Did anyone in Film Production not get deferred? DD is an excellent match and was deferred as well as a friend who was also a great candidate. They were both admitted to other film departments early action. Wondering if they deferred all Film Production candidates because they didn’t have time to review all the supplemental info (the optional portfolios).
Seems like all the film kids all got their deferral notices this morning at the same time too…makes me wonder
Still waiting. My son is in top 15% of class. Leadership positions in many organizations. 1960 SAT and 28 ACT. He knows someone with less worthy numbers who was already accepted. Not worried.
LMU is top five in the nation for film stuff, so I am not surprised that many didn’t get in. When I went to their tour, they claimed their ranking as top 5 in the nation for film industry. There is a LOT of competition for film applicants there, just like there is for engineering applicants at UC Berkeley.
Ultimately, good luck guys. Better luck on the RD round. Just know that you will end up somewhere you will like!
PS: LMU’s Film is no one’s match from what I’ve heard.
I’m still waiting too. I’m really nervous now since everyone else is starting to hear back.
Salutation did you hear back from film production with an acceptance? Just wondering if anyone did.
Yes of course I probably shouldn’t have used the word match. But both are excellent candidates and were accepted to programs higher on the Hollywood reporter top film schools list already.
I’ve heard from numerous kids with strong academics and artistic portfolios that they were deferred due to “grades.” Given that we were all waiting till the last possible second I’m nearly certain they just ran out of time and are using the grades excuses in order to save some face.
Straight from the admissions office this morning–they don’t typically defer based on grades unless you are under a 3.0, they make a decision, but they are notorious for deferring applications they didn’t have time to fully review. My guess is the film production students fell into that category.
Got an email that said deferred from film production. Well, that takes care of the portal 'cause that didn’t update. The email was sent before anything which I find a bit weird but at this point idrc.
Edit: The portal didn’t change at all. I just checked it again.
Yea DD’s portal didn’t update either but got the email
@jss9395 I find it ironic because everyone else’s portal changed but mine and your daughter’s
@jss9395 and yingyang1998 Just checked now… we are still “under review” according to the portal–so no portal change. All we got was the email at 9:17 am CST.
My guess? The under review portal means they haven’t gotten to it yet. Both my daughter and her friends remain “under review.” Also of note her portfolio was uploaded and accepted to slide room or whatever (can’t remember which system they each use) but wasn’t reflected as logged in to the LMU system until today. Though they assured her when she called that they had received it weeks ago.
Honestly I wish they were like chapman who said that they would not get to early action film production with the first round and gave them a February date.
Also was told by film production admissions today that only about 10 students were accepted in the Early Action process this year.
@jss9395 I didn’t even send in a portfolio. And that would be kinda bad because I sent in my app on Oct 14th. I applied here, will apply for creative producing for chap, UCLA, DePaul, USC business with emphasis in cinematic arts. Where else did your daughter apply? @waitingnwaiting that makes 3 of us.
@Chiefton97 Just out of curiosity, how many people do they accept for film production admissions?
From another thread in here for 2012 film production admit stats:
“Becuase of last year’s increase in enrollment yield (the number of accepted students who end up enrolling) admissions assumed a yield for this year’s freshman class of 30%. With the goal of enrolling 1250 students, LMU admitted 4125 students (1250*3.3) from an applicant pool of 11,824. The acceptance rate for this year was approximately 34.9%”
Don’t even begin to know how accurate that is.
