The website for the LMU School of Film & Television lists about 600 undergrads – so the school enrolls about 150 students per year across all majors (there are 5 or 6 undergrad majors in this school). There was no information specific to Film Production. 50 Film Production students would seem about right – USC and Chapman claim to have about 70 - 75 Production majors per year. LMU doesn’t have as extensive a facility base as Chapman or USC (the facilities LMU has are very good - they just don’t have as much space). 50 could be high or low …a bit of guessing is necessary. If you are interested in Film Production admissions - that is tougher because we need some sense of the yield (how many admitted Film students choose to attend LMU). Rough guess would be a 50% yield - this is a sought after major and LMU has a Top 10 Film School ranking and a fantastic location for internships. So the number of admissions might be around 100 (with a wide range around that number). The acceptance rate for the Film school has been quoted by the Director of Admission as 15- 20% in the past couple of years (found that on previous threads) – so the acceptance rate for the School of Film and Television is much lower than for LMU overall. A 15 - 20% acceptance rate would indicate that LMU gets 500 - 1000 Film Production applicants each year.
I applied for Film Production and haven’t heard back yet… Starting to get a bit nervous.
@camtej you didn’t get an email or anything?
D was deferred for Film Production. We’re confused as we thought all Film Production decisions were made in the spring. Obviously that’s not the case. Wondering what the odds are for a deferred acceptance. Does anyone have any idea? Someone said they only admitted 10 EA applicants this fall.
@yingyang1998 Nothing… I’m starting to think maybe my application wasn’t in on time for Early Action? Although I’m 99% sure it was…
I’d call & ask @camtej
Just got an email from LMU saying that we’d be receiving an email invite to MyAid within the next couple of days. For those waiting to hear about merit aid - it’s almost time!
Does anyone know when specifically scholarship weekend is? I know it is late February, but anyone asked or heard the exact dates?
Accepted for Film Production!
GPA: 3.689 UW (at a top-tier high school)
ACT: 33
SAT: 2110
Son received an invite to MyAid today - or late yesterday. Got it all set up. Hopefully this means the awards letters will be coming out soon!
Does anyone know if the FAFSA has to be filled out for merit aid? We received the MyAid invite too but it was just to fill out the FAFSA and said nothing about merit scholarships.
@SeattleMom1 I actually emailed them about that and never got a response. We won’t qualify for any, but I filled it out just in case. Honestly, my real question is might we get passed over for merit since we don’t have a documented need?
My understanding is that merit is separate from need. So even if the EA students don’t get their FAFSA in by January 15, they will still hear early on merit (by the end I the month I beleive).
I am planning on not filling it out unless they tell me I need to for merit. I think I will call them Monday just to be sure. Once we’ve decided on a college, I will call that school to find out what the consequences are for not filling it out. I’ve read on CC that some schools won’t give you need in the future if you don’t fill out the FAFSA as a freshman.
@SeattleMom1 no you will not get passed over if no need is demonstrated. The Fasfa did need to be received by the 15th to hear back by the end of this month. My oldest DS last year had no demonstrated need and received the largest merit award from all the schools he applied to. I have another son entering college this year and am waiting to hear from LMU again. This week notices will go out.
Does anybody know when they send out scholarships?
It’s supposed to be by the end of the month if you applied EA.
Trying to be patient, but struggling… Just a few more days!!
@anothermuggle I actually don’t think my S is remotely aware, but I sure am. It’s the last piece of the puzzle and then we will start narrowing things down and considering any visit or preview day type options. Ahhhh!
@CAMidwestMom I’m still waiting on a couple RD decisions, but I have a lot of high hope for aid from LMU (especially since Fordham and SCU were a bust). I actually liked LMU a lot more than Santa Clara when I visited, and I’m doing a really bad job at not getting my hopes up…
