hi i'm looking to transfer to a 4-year college in the los angeles area for vocal performance or musical theatre and i was wondering if anyone going to loyola marymount could answer a few questions for me:
1. are there any musical theatre productions at the school?
2. are there musical theatre classes (singing, acting, dancing)?
3. are there private voice lessons available as a class or through the school?
4. and if you are majoring in theatre or music there, do you like it?

Hi there! Hopefully this reply isn’t too late (I saw that you posted september 2010) but I am going to be a junior at LMU this coming fall. I am currently a theatre arts major there, focusing on performance, and I have a strong background in Musical Theatre. Unfortunately, there is no musical theatre major/emphasis at LMU, however, I think it is actually a benefit! LMU theatre really focuses on the development of the character, and an in-depth work in acting and relating to other actors and the audience, which can sometimes be pushed aside in musical theatre, as the music and choreogrpahy is sometimes focused more on. The benefit of LMU is that there ARE musicals put on through the theatre department, as well as the Del Rey Players, which is the student run theatre company on campus, with their own season of shows, own theatre, and everything is stuent produced! Anyway, you have the opportunity to perform in the musicals on campus, there are a ton of dance classes you can take, even if you are not a dance major, including Musical Theatre Dance classes! You can also get involved with the music department with choirs, private voice lessons, and more! So although there is no actual musical theatre major, the dance, voice, and acting classes are all there and they are FABULOUS and accessible!!!

Hope that helps!!!
