hello all,
I applied to LMU and Whittier and I am waiting to hear back from both. I am visiting both schools in March.

I was wondering--which school do you prefer and why?

I heard really good things about both schools, but I was wondering if anyone can share some insight or anything they heard with me?

You can also reach me at jessierose27@comcast.net :)

Best,
Jessica

I think LMU is a way better school than Whittier College. It’s more prestigious and has generally better programs in most areas

I’m just worried I won’t get into LMU coming as an OOS transfer, compared to Whittier.

Both are good regional colleges. LMU is stronger academically but they’re known for poor financial aid so I’d say, if you’re admitted to both, go to the cheapest one and do your utmost to stand out, get internships, etc.

that is the plan, stan. Also-- I researched into Santa Clara University. This school is pretty competitive. Is it worth it to apply coming as as OOS transfer?

It’s private so your being OOS may actually be considered a plus. However be aware they’re pretty bad for financial aid.

What are your stats?

A recommendation: remove your email address from your post, it’s dangerous. You never know what creeps are lurking out there.

You’re right, thank you. It’s just so expensive-that’s why I’m reluctant on applying to more schools. :’( I already payed 200 for application fees and my parents don’t help me whatsoever.

So, I’ll have to wait until I get paid to submit my app for SCU. Which sucks.

stats- 3.5 gpa, strong essay and extracurriculars, working part-time and I own my own photography business. I also write books. Major will be english. My act score is average, though.

ACT won’t matter too much, your college GPA will, as well as what you did in college.
Your odds at Whittier and LMU are good, SCU probably too. You could even see whether you could get into Occidental or Pitzer - their financial aid is better than Whittier, LMU, and SCU. Of course they’re reaches but you never know… If you can’t apply to Oxy, Pitzer, and SCU, I’d pick Pitzer first.

In college, I’ve only taken gen ed courses. I haven’t done anything significant with college yet, but I am taking full-time summer classes.

I have my eyes set on Whittier College and LMU. I think Oxy and Pitzer are way outta my reach :(

I think you’re selling yourself short:
this, to me, would make both Oxy and Pitzer reachable. Not “definite safeties”, certainly, but definite possibilities, yes. Do apply to one (or both). You don’t have anything to lose and, as mentioned before, their financial aid budget is higher than LMU’s and Whittier’s (although both LMU and Whittier are fine schools).

I heard that LMU and Whittier are considered safety schools to some, but I feel like another person’s safety is someones reach. I’m worried if I’ll even get into Whittier or LMU. Maybe I’m just worrying too much!?! :x

I have got to calm down.

And, Ah, thank you MYOS1634 That’s really nice. I guess I’m just being hard on myself, but it’s not like I’m traditionally published yet, and I just started my photography business. I guess it’s about passion, ey?

Perhaps I will apply to one, but I don’t like the idea of going to school in the heart of LA. I’ll begin research, but I am for sure finishing my app for SCU. (Although it’s so much $$$) I guess you’re paying for the name? hmmmmm.

If you have financial issues, you can email the school and ask what you need to do to request a fee waiver.
