applied to nova as my first choice and got waitlisted...in the meantime i got into loyola and checked it out and i really really liked it...it seems amazing. however, i'm still on the waitlist at nova...if there is the chance i get in, what should i do? nova is much more competitive academically, and originally it was my first choice...but loyola seems amazing too!! any suggestions...?

haha, i'm kinda in the same boat... except i'm choosing between nova and loyola. I'm going on friday to visit loyola again, and then on saturday i'm going to that admitted students day at nova. Yea, this is a hard decision, trust me, i know. I guess i'll figure everything out after this weekend :-X... I hope...

First, I am not that sure that Nova is that much more competitive academically. That being said you should send your Deposit to Loyola and focus on that because there is no guarantee that you will ever get into Nova. You can always forfeit your Deposit to Loyola at a later date if you get into Nova. For now concentrate on Loyola. Both of you keep us posted on how your visits went and where you decide to go.

I know Capecod chose Loyola. Where did you decide to go Snofox?

sorry guys, I chose nova. I visited loyola last friday and met up with a friend of a friend that goes there. From his description of loyola (hes a freshman, and has a brother thats a senior), I felt that its the kind of college that I dont want. But he loves it, and I bet everyone else who chose it will too. Good luck next year!

well i chose loyola because im still on the waitlist at nova...however, if somehow i get off that waitlist that's where my real dilemma is...then what do i do, go to loyola or go to nova?

Cape Cod realistically its time to move on and make plans for going to Loyola. This would only change if you suddenly got into Nova but I wouldn't get excited about getting in off the "waitlist". Nowadays, schools overaccept and rarely tap into their waitlist so unless you are in their top five you have little chance of getting in. For example, Loyola accepted 57% of their applications or around 4,500 students and hope to have a class of around 900. That shows you that alot kids have to turn Loyola down before they even look at the wait list. I am sure it is tha same at Nova and everywhere else.

that is true BRavens...but my dad is a graduate and active donating alum of villanova...so he's been pushing for villanova this entire time. even if I CHOOSE loyola in the end, my dad merely wants for me to have the choice...so he's been doing everything in his power to get me to the top of that list, where i'm currently standing -- according to the office of admissions. thus, a month from now i really could be faced with the decision of choosing between the two...and i'm really torn about that, which it why i posted in the first place. if you catch my drift...

CapeCod-I am Loyola '74 and a regular alumni contributor and my daughter will be going there so I can appreciate your position(LOL). However, my daughter chose Loyola on her own and made it her 1st choice after a campus visit. I actually liked some other schools we looked at also and would not have been upset if she chose another school(Towson, Gettysburg and Penn, we both hated Washington College). My two oldest went to Towson and loved it. My daughter also got a much better offer from Towson but still chose Loyola so I felt she was comfortable with her choice. My only concern is that you might be being unfairly pressured by your father to choose Nova over Loyola. I hope not. I know you really enjoyed your Campus visit to Loyola, did you feel the same about Nova? I hope that you are able to choose the school you really want go to whatever it is. Good luck!

CapeCod-Has anything changed for you yet? Is Nova still a possibilty?

i guess nova is still a possibilty...i called and the admissions rep from my area (northern nj) said letters for people on the waitlist should be going out this week...so i guess i'll have to wait and see

I'm from the Baltimore area and have a lot of friends who go to Loyola. Although I am going to Maryland, I applied to Loyola as a safety and Villanova because I just plain loved it. I'm a lifelong catholic education kid - so several of my colleges were Catholic schools. The campus and freshman housing at Loyola are awesome compared to most campuses - and you can certainly get a good education at Loyola. When I spend time there though, I feel like its just a fifth year of high school - maybe its because I'm local. The party scene there takes place off campus and cabs line up 6 nights a week to transport kids to bars in Baltimore. The one really major difference between the 2 schools is sports. If you are a big sports fan - Nova is the place to be. The kids there really support the teams and the bball team is awesome. They have football too. At Loyola, bball is okay, no football, lax is big because its Baltimore, but many teams are just club level and really don't draw student support. I feel fortunate that I got into my number one school - Maryland - and of course Loyola - but I was surprised to be waitlisted at Villanova - never saw that coming!

CapeCod where did you finally go? loyola or Nova. Are you happy there?
