Anyone here yet if they have been accepted to the Honors Program?
oops: hear
D2 applied a couple of days before the January 14th (first) deadline. She hasn’t heard yet. But as you probably know, they only say that students in the first round will hear by February 5th. I find the website a bit challenging to navigate; here’s the most helpful link I found: http://www.applytohonors.lsa.umich.edu/#!deadlines–requirements/cq
Very familiar with the link and aware of the “by” February 5th date, but I had called the Honors Program and they told me kids should start checking their Wolverine account starting January 23rd.
@stresseddad Good to know – thanks for the update. Best of luck to your son or daughter!
D2 checked, and at least at this point there isn’t a place on her Wolverine access account for a reply. Is there a link on your son or daughter’s Wolverine Access page?
The link I sent you earlier says that decisions will be provided to the students via email. My recollection is that it took a little under three weeks for D1 to receive her acceptance to Honors two years ago, but the process was a bit different then.
@arlmom2 Thanks, when I called they said something about a U of M email address unique to each student, I have not asked my D about it, do not like to bother her too much :>). How did your D1 like the program?
@stresseddad D1 ultimately chose to go to William & Mary, and is delighted with her choice. W&M is a state school for her, so the economics were not on Michigan’s side. D2 learned from D1’s experience, and applied early enough to be considered for merit aid, which could make a difference in D2’s decision process (D1 didn’t learn about the merit aid deadline until it had already passed).
BTW, D2 doesn’t seem to know anything about a special Michigan email address for applicants – her admissions offer simply came to her regular email address she used for the application. If you find out anything about this, please do post, and I’ll do the same. Thanks!
anyone here anything yet?
Just called and they were very specific as to how the student will be notified: through their U-Mich email which is a Google account, the notification will not come to the students regular email address. They also said you could start checking.
@stresseddad - do you think that person really knew what they were talking about? My son doesn’t have a Umich email. You get it when you pay your $300 non-refundable deposit. The honors info in the original e-mail he received said the response would be going to the e-mail provided by the student (personal e-mail)>
That is what they just told me when I called, you are welcome to call and find out otherwise and let us know…(734) 764-6274. I have not asked my daughter about it but they were pretty clear about it.
OK - I called. He went and talked to his manager.
New info: If the student paid the deposit, at that time a Umich e-mail account is set up for the student and all communication, including this decision will come to that account. If they haven’t paid the deposit, the decision will be visible on Wolverine Access and no e-mail will be sent.
Thanks for clearing it up!
Sure thing! Please share when you hear a decision; I’ll do the same.
@wayneandgarth @stresseddad Thanks for getting this information. It now matches the bits of information on the website, and is quite helpful.
When D2 looked on Wolverine Access, there wasn’t a place for this Honors College decision. Do your son and daughter have a space on their Wolverine Access for the decision? D2 received the confirmation that they had her application for Honors, etc.
Thanks!
@arlmom2 and @stresseddad - well, guess what, I found out what I believe is better information. I did an on line chat with admissions and they said it won’t go to Wolverine Access but will in fact go to the applicant’s personal e-mail account. I get the feeling they knew what they were talking about and the honors office did not. But, I of course can’t say that is definitive.
@wayneandgarth @stresseddad At this point, I’m just shaking my head! I appreciate your perseverance on behalf of all of our children! I thought that D1 found out about honors through email when she applied two years ago, but lots of things can change in that time!
I’ll post when we hear anything official. At a minimum, the students are supposed to hear by next Thursday. Best of luck to all!
@wayneandgarth @stresseddad Nothing here. I just checked the website and they haven’t changed the reply date, which means the students should find out tomorrow:
http://www.applytohonors.lsa.umich.edu/#!deadlines–requirements/cq
Yes - looks like tomorrow should be the day. My S also flys in tomorrow for an Admitted Students Day on Friday.
More importantly, I hope all these great and patient students waiting on Admissions hear back very soon.
